Spyderco are good guys, but it would surely be asking too much of them to facilitate 2nd hand sales that might be to the detriment of their sales of new items.

Mine had blade play at pivot and loose action new from the box. Light lube and torx adjustment left it glassy smooth and no blade play at all. My take is that they are of precision made components and so should perform perfectly when carefully set-up. I'm exceedingly happy with it.

Strop w/honing paste v sharpmaker w/ ultra fine rods?

In short: which is better for keeping my blade edges in top condition? Will the u/f rods create a polished edge? My freehand sharpening is barely adequate for our old kitchen knives, and I'm looking to upgrade to a sharpmaker anyhow. Costwise, there is little difference between the u/f rods and a to...

The Manix LW is a great knife. I wonder what a PM2 LW would be like, though?

I am sure they are good for the money, and the reviews are excellent, but I can't help but wonder if the range is intended to capture the buyer who likes the idea of having a new Spyderco branded knife without the price tag. They seem to un-necessarily undermine the Byrd range otherwise. I bought a ...

Does the cbbl vary between the Manix variations (Manii?)

Hi. Is the lock easier to operate on the Manix XL than the Manix LW? Or is it consistent between models and individual knives?
Thanks!

They're surprisingly different. I love my PM2, and really like the compression lock, but find the cbbl on my Manix LW slightly awkward, even though the lock-up feels remarkably solid. If disaster should befall and either were taken away, I would still be left with a great knife.

Paramilitary blade play success.

My PM2 was quite free on the pivot, which was nice, but had a slight rocking play on the blade there, which wasn't. Adjusting the screws didn't help. Loosening the screws off further proved the lanyard tube to be a very snug fit indeed, which I didn't want to disturb, but enabled me to see that the ...

Great vid. Great knives. You can tell it's filmed in Europe because there's art on the walls, not assault rifles!

Funny, really. I'm looking for an excuse to buy another Spydie, and getting recommended an Opinel. Far easier to find this side of the pond, of course, but my broken (tanto?) tipped carbon steel Opinel 10 has been the mainstay of my camping cook kit for over 20 years!
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Best large folder for food prep

Manix XL, Military? Any other?
For camping/field use so easy to clean and rust resistance also needed.
Thanks!

Gun? Hah! In the UK I could be sent to gaol (that's jail, spelt properly) for carrying my PM2 in public! If I carried one of your Glock's etc, I might never see daylight again!

Regardless of the honesty of the eBay vendor, as it's a deliberate counterfeit I think it should ideally be confiscated and destroyed, otherwise sooner or later someone WILL be conned. If that can't be done, eBay should pull the plug on both the item and vendor, otherwise aren't they're profiting fr...

I'm with bearfacedkiller. " Buy it cheap, buy it twice. " Internet research showed me the way to Spyderco only a few months ago. I had previously baulked at the unusual look, but a very poor Boker plus experience made me look for better, and the good reviews for spydies on the web was over...

I suppose Spyderco could ultrasound test and certify every blade that they dispatch ... but I for one wouldn't want to pay for it. These are pocket knives, not fighter jets, after all. (Sorry!) The most interesting thing for me here is Sal's prompt, clear and appropriate response.

I've no doubt that as they have the spyderco name both on and behind them, the Tenacious line are of satisfactory quality and utility. I'm happy to pay more for some of the better ones myself. Quality products often follow the law of diminishing returns, however, and we all make our own judgement ca...
