The new Kopa which is a take off of the Kiwi has a spear blade and is a bit bigger. For me the Kiwi with the wharncliffe blade was perfect. I love Wharnies so I am not much help. I have never found the lack of belly to discourage its utility :) Take Care and keep your eyes peeled for the Kopa :) We...

Kiwi and wharncliffe

Can someone tell me why the Kiwi was made with a Wharncliffe blade? I would have thought a clip or drop would be a real winner in a 'slipjoint-replacer' like the Kiwi. I'm not complaining, mind you, I like my Kiwi very much. I could see getting the older folks I know to like it too if it was a clip ...

Sal did imply that it was the delica. No surpise there. But I still say the CalypsoJr. is better. ;)

.. so i sent it in a couple of hours ago. Well, after :spyder: inspects it, I presume they will sharpen it to factory specs and test it. That will eliminate any sharpening technique questions. If it fails, I am sure they will replace the blade or knife. If :spyder: factory sharpening fixes the prob...

Very little performance difference between S30V and VG10 as far as I can tell. S30V seems a bit "grainier" as is a little more difficult to sharpen to a polished hone edge. S30V is supposed to be more corrosion resistant as well, but I haven't seen a spot on any of my VG10 and I refuse to ...

Hi Deacon. Hi end often means low production because of the price. I'd like to see if the steel really makes enough difference to the ELUs to purchase as a user. sal Caly is a winner, in ANY steel and handle. I would prefer G10, but FRN keeps the price down, which is a good thing when testing a new...

Klattman, Just put your hands if you can on a UK penknife. It is soooo much better than the Pride. You will be pleasantly surprised. I'm not saying that :spyder: should make a slipjoint version of each of its knives. Probably max 5 or 10 of the small to medium sized knives (Kiwi, Dodo, Salsa II com...

I though maglites were awful. Until I threw away the bulbs and got an "everled". No more yellow light, almost as bright, never needs replacing, much tougher than a regular bulb, and runs for more than half a day on one set of batts. Just a suggestion. There are many great drop-ins for magl...

My anxiously awaited Gray Calypso Jr. is finally here. My first impression right out of the box was... WHAT A COOL LITTLE KNIFE! I'm really glad I got one of these. It is perhaps the perfect size for the office or where sheepeople are milling about. The handle is a much darker gray than expected. I...

More slipjoint folders to follow the UK Penknife !!! There's going to be a Danish version, but how about a G10/S30V Pride ??? I'm sure slipjoints are the way ahead, if you read the comments from Sal & others who've been using the penknife, they don't miss a locking blade, and with ever tighteni...

Okay, my interest is peaked. I know on my Calypso Jr. the blades are not perfectly centered when closed, is that what is being referred to with the phrase "centered"? Is there some inherit advantage of being perfectly centered, and if so, does anyone know which [online] dealers are sellin...

IMHO, The smaller the blade, the harder it should be since you will only use it to cut. You would use it more often and constant sharprning is annoying. A larger blade needs to be slightly softer, so you can chop, pry or use it on thicker or tougher materials. Also big thick knives are not meant to ...

... IMO, the Calypso Jr is much, much better than the Delica. I think it may not look as nice but it's functionally better. I love full flat grinds. I wish Spyderco would produce the Calypso Jr in a limited run with G10 handles :D I wish spyderco would make it a constant part of the line up. We all...

:) I knew I would get responses. So far everyone has praised the CalyJr and some have agreed that it is better than the Delica. My only hope is that it is reincarnated many times. The current design is so good, however, that it's tough to see how it could be improved at the same price point. The FRN...

One can hardly expect a knife to pry well if it is useful for slicing. For slicing and general cutting, you need a thin blade, for prying you ned a thick blade. So what? A thick blade won't cut through things worth a ____. If you need prying, get a multitool, atwood prybaby or a thick style tanto et...

It will be a very sad day when the current Caly Jr. runs out. I honestly think it is better than the Delica (though it would be nice to have holes threaded for tip up also), and it should reside as a constant part of the Spydie lineup. It's still a bad bad knife though, because I have to buy another...

Calypso Jr. is a bad bad knife

I hate it becasue I can't carry ANYTHING else anymore. I always find myself missing it when it isn't there. It's the perfect size for EDC and very comfortable to use. It's scary sharp and slices so well. I can't praise this little dude enough and neither can most others, so why is it not in the perm...
