Re: 2 brand new Native 5 LW problems

I’d ask for an exchange. You probably can fix it, but you shouldn’t have to for a fresh one out of the box.

Re: Lightest Weight Spydercos...?

I am a UL backpacker but I am also a knife nut.

On my last trip I picked the Para 3 LW SE, but if I had my scale in front of me, the M2LW is a little lighter with a more ergonomic design.

If there’s any real chance of fire making, an Izula fits in nicely. Otherwise a small FRN knife is plenty.

Re: Official 2021 Discontinued List

Truly sad about the loss of ZDP-189. A great balanced steel with ridiculous edge holding.

At least we get to keep K390.

Can we see some prototypes that made it to production with some tweaks? I'm so curious.

Re: Might as well jump: RockJumper first impressions

I ended up buying this one in SE and I’m so glad I didn’t pass it up. This has got the best action of any lockback I’ve used and stellar ergos to go with it. I’ll be snapping up one of these in PE in any upgrade steel, fingers crossed for K390 or at least SPY27. I can also imagine a scaled up and sc...

Re: Another "mini" Police thread?

I really like the slim profile of the Police. Makes carrying a big blade easy. A Mini Police should have a similar affect. I loved the old Rookie. With a little more stretched out length and a finger choil it could dominate my EDC.

Re: Boye dent poll. Let your voice be heard or be a sheep in a herd.

I like the Boye dent, prefer it even, but it has never once been a dealbreaker and some of my favorite knives lack them. For instance, the Chaparral, Police 4, and Rockjumper all lack the Boye dent and I don’t mind. I would certainly prefer it, just because the feel of it is so natural to me, but la...

Re: Large fixed blade- s35vn vs 3v

If you look at the Toughness graph here: https://knifesteelnerds.com/2019/06/03/the-history-of-3v-cru-wear-and-z-tuff-steel/ And the Edge Retention graph here: https://knifesteelnerds.com/2020/05/01/testing-the-edge-retention-of-48-knife-steels/ You can see that S35VN has slightly better, but simila...

The Chap does break in, each of my Chaps I have left half open overnight and they've been considerably smoother since.

Re: I should uh, probably get a Chaparral. Right?

It took me a few years to warm up to the Chap (I used to be a Caly3 fanboy) but I'm finally there. It's a little lighter, slimmer, snappier than the Caly3, and ultimately the better knife. The action is incredible with no lock rock, the XHP steel is one of my very favorites, and it carries really ni...

Re: Chaparral Lightweight

I don't have a Sage 1 or a Chaparral LW but I can tell you the Chaparral CF and RN are two of my very favorite knives. Very slicey.

The CF is a nice middle ground between grippy for hands and slick for pockets, and tough as you know for daily carry.

High Hollow Grind

Let's make 2021 and beyond the decade of high hollow grind. Full flat grind has its place, but with better steels than ever and greater emphasis on thinness BTE, we can do even better with a good high hollow grind. The GB2 with its high hollow grind is a sheer delight to use, zipping through materia...

Can the holes in the trainers also prevent you from turning it into a live blade?
Not being heat-treated probably prevents you from turning it into a good edge.

Re: SFO virtual tour - please!

I was at SFO earlier this year, as I usually make the pilgrimage every year. You drive up Spyderco Way after making making a sketchy u-turn on 93 because you were listening to a great song on the radio and the sign for Spyderco heading east is a little too small and you were going a little too fast ...

Re: Wharncliffe's

I would buy a SE Yo2. I had a blue Yo1 that I was very fond of, but a friend talked it right out of my pocket. I never bought a Yo2 in the gap since. A SE version would tip the scales for me. If it were it asymmetric hollow like Mr. Janich suggests, it would be even more enticing.

The answer is Sal & co just love holes. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Also, spiders love holes. But insects creep me out, so I'm not gonna post a pic of that.

Re: Wharncliffe's

In my experience, the HHG as on knives like the CRK folders and the GB2 really make them cutting demons. I don't really like how CRK treats their steel (too soft for my taste) but the geometry is excellent. I think if Spyderco did some wharncliffe in HHG, it would cut even better. I don't think high...

My knife hobby has nothing to do with survival or life and death, but I want to just give my thanks for Sal's commitment to reliable high performance tools that must not fail under stressful situations. I plan to buy one of these out of interest and for my meager BOB, just to show my support for the...

I have used my one M2LW quite hard, carried it everywhere, gotten it quite wet. Pinned is just fine for me. I actually quite prefer it in the field- there's no chance of screws falling out by surprise.

Re: Sal; will we ever see...

The Jazzlica in either K390 or ZDP-189 would be fab. I'm absolutely loving the K390 Delica right now. The steel is just so nice, takes a great edge and holds it.
