Re: Delica options for the wife

Byrd Meadowlark and Harrier are both about Delica size and have G10 handle options.

On the other end of the price spectrum, the Spyderco Mantra 3 is also Delica size.

All of those have handle profiles that are similar to a Delica.

Re: Spyderco UTILITY Knife...

Seems like the "Spyderco utility knife" topic comes up pretty regularly, much like the "Spyderco multi-tool" topic. Here's the last thread about utility knives: https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=87684 I don't care for folding utility knives. Most of the time when...

Re: Retire The PM2?

I don't think a thinner Shaman is necessarily a bad idea. But I don't see it replacing the PM2, not even over a long period of time. The Shaman and PM2 are very different designs. In particular, the blade shape is completely different. If someone likes the PM2 blade shape and likes the pronounced th...

Re: Byrd Harrier 2 LWT (1st impressions/bladeplay)

I have the G10 version of the Harrier 2, not the FRN/lightweight version. But with my knife, there is zero side-to-side movement with the blade in any position, from fully closed to fully open. I also have a Byrd Cara Cara 2 rescue that has FRN handles. And it also has no side-to-side blade play. So...

Everybody Had An Ocean: Music and Mayhem in 1960s Los Angeles, by William McKeen. 2017. I love reading nonfiction books about the L.A. music scene of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Jim It's not a book, but if you haven't seen it yet, check out the documentary "Sound City": https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

Re: DLT Exclusive OD Green G10 / DLC S90V PM2 Available March 30th @ 11:00 AM CST

Are there any other pics of this? I'm specifically interested in the liners -- are they coated black too, or are they satin? I don't normally try for exclusives that sell out in a few seconds, but I like this color combo (assuming the liners are black) and the price isn't outlandish. DLT commented ...

I just used my calipers to measure my index finger in various positions. (Straight and bent, to simulate holding the knife.) Based on that, I'm getting the larger size.

Re: Favorite late '70s/early '80s movies

I don't own very many DVD/BD, which means if I have the DVD/BD then it must be a favorite. So here's a list from a quick look through the DVD/BD shelves: 1979: Alien 1980: Airplane! 1981: The Dogs Of War, Raiders of the Lost Ark 1982: Blade Runner 1984: Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, Red Dawn, Term...

Re: Search engine - word too common

Have you tried this? (From this thread: https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=87939) Unfortunately, the search tool on most forums is a challenge. On ours, with such a busy forum, it's even worse because so many words can be excluded as common. And yes, the timer is a means to prevent ...

Re: The upcoming Salt 2 ffg: Spydercos (Mini-) Bugout alternative and more? Perfect ultralight hiking knife?

In the USA, I suspect one of the reasons the Bugout is popular with backpackers is simply that it is sold at REI stores. And not just online -- I've seen it in the knife case at the physical stores. But if I search for "spyderco" on the REI site, only the Delica4 comes up. And I've never s...

Re: The Return of the Persian

Voted "maybe"... I don't think this specific model has to return. But I would like to see a Persian-style knife in the lineup. I certainly wouldn't complain if the Ed Schempp Persian came back, but it could also be a new/different design. For example, Peter Rasenti has made Persian-style c...

Re: Anyone a HAM Radio Operator?

I'm looking at this technology rather than a SAT Phone but that may be the only technology that works. My brother is around 45 to 55 miles away from me, and if the grid goes down, a SAT Phone may be the only option. Like I said, my application is just prepper related at the moment. Cellphones are s...

I've been licensed for many years (since shortly after the tech license dropped the morse requirement), although I only have a tech license and am not very active. I was just thinking about this the other day and wondering how one would get started in this. Are there portable models, now? I remember...

Re: Current Byrd Back Lock Quality?

Over a year ago, I got a Byrd Raven 2, Harrier 2, and Cara Cara 2 Rescue. None had dirty internals, and the fit and finish was good on all three. The Raven 2 is a liner lock, so it's a bit of a different knife, but first impressions of the Harrier 2 (and a little about the CC2) are here: https://for...

That’s quite fun! The app accesses the camera to superimpose the content on whatever is in front of you. Thanks very much for the info. In that case, I'll pass. If Spyderco wants to make a virtual museuem that I can view from my desktop browser, I'd be interested in that. But "augmented realit...

I suppose this should go to the Spyderco marketing team, but why is this trying to access the camera on my system? For those who have run it, what is it doing with the camera? I originally tried to run this on my desktop system, which does not have a camera. And it won't run; it puts up an error: &q...

Re: Looking for model #

Very likely... I've never owned a SS knife (never cared for how slick they are) so I didn't realize they were so hard to take apart. But it sounds like the OP could somewhat mimic his old knife by getting a Matriarch 2 then some Flytanium (or other company) aftermarket Endura 4 scales. They wouldn't...
