Re: Parata Finally

I prefer fixed blades for game processing - easier to keep clean. But the Parata looks to me like a semi-Ulu with a folding handle. That seems like a pretty functional blade shape for slicing action.

Re: Which locks can you easily close one handed?

... You'd think. But the number of posts I've seen where people have trouble with lockbacks, cbbl etc. is pretty crazy. Even looking at the poll it's weird that liner locks score a few points higher than framelocks. Huh? Unlocking them is the same. Another thing that I always felt was weird are lef...

I'm thinking Shaman or Native Chief.
Either! But if we get a Cruwear Shaman, I want a 4V Chief to go with it :) But I'd take a Mili too.

Re: Largest Spyderco you're comfortable with?

Mili - every day (at home) - I have found the extra blade length is really useful and have no problem carrying it (either RFP or LFP). I don't have yet a P4 or Chief, but I am sure they will be equally edc-able. In the office I go for more discreet carry, which usually means a PM3 (PM2 at most). Loo...

Lol, thinking again, I think the Millie in 52100 was cf/g10 laminate? Not to belabor the point, but whatever you want to call it, peel-ply CF IS sol...

Re: Military...so much handle

Not much to add (new anyway). I have small hands and thought the PM2 was perfect. I waited for many years before buying my first Mili. Now it is all I carry! You have to judge it in use, not by looks. It is design genius in many subtle ways. Even the liner lock and tip-down, which I was not a fan of...

Re: Blade length considerations...

Big is relative to what you’re doing. For me a 2” folder is small, 3” medium, 4” big. In the kitchen 4” is small, 8” medium, 12” big. Small machetes start at 12” and go to 24+. Swords..... Exactly. Context. The other thing is format. Folders lose their convenience relative to a fixed blade when the...

Re: Blade length considerations...

I was once asked by a friend why anyone would want a knife with a blade longer than a 3" (which she already thought was long). I just asked her how long and how much variety in length she had in the kitchen. I edc a Military because I like the blade length, but it is a paring knife in length. T...

Re: 3V or 4V Steel in a folder.

Personally I'm very happy with my delta3V CPK fixed blades. I like the few 4V blades I own. 52100 is a fine steel, but does not hold an edge nearly as well, including the extra hard Mili, and it rusts much faster too. Different steels for different uses and price points, so as long as spyderco keeps...

But glad you did!

All sounds good. Add Cru-Wear to the list as well.

CG
I'd get one, especially if it was in Cruwear.

Thumb hole roll. It is not slow ;)
And it is a controlled positive-locking opening method.

Re: Yojimbo Love?

I am a big Yo2 fan too and generally like it as is. I am not a fan of ball bearing lock because I find it awkward to operate, and the compression lock works great except when I am wearing heavy gloves/mittens. I would not object to a longer version and one without the long spine / short transition t...

It has a thumb hole. It opens great using that.

hey Darby,

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

With or without liners, I'm in. It will be a great knife. As far as function and carry, I see no harm in liners, espec. partials. I like the insurance you buy with liners for the reasons Pelagic and others have stated, and see no real functional downside. The cost may be the consideration, I don't k...

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

The Native Chief looks like the magical combination of the old C54 Calypso and the current linerless G10 Native5. Outstanding! I would like to see a subtle swedge like those knives have but that isn't too difficult of a mod. I want one in Cruwear and K390. Thanks! Also, BHQ, you better make this ha...
