Re: Spydiechef CQI??

Since I'm contemplating getting me one of these: is there a way to directly tell from the serial wether it's the upgraded version or not?

Would you want to see this new spin on the compression lock on other knives?

Yes, please. I think this is a step up in evolution.

Re: Subvert C239GPOR

Man, I'm really intrigued by this... so unpractical, so tempting. Perhaps it's good that this feels just a bit too expensive (it's €350 over here, almost $400 that is...) considering it's a S30V knife with a missing steel insert on the lockbar. Also I'm a bit frightened by its thumb cleaving capabil...

Re: New knife, uneven grind

I guess it’s just one of those things I have to get over. Sorry to the OP for highjacking the thread! IMO you are onto something, though others don’t seem to think so. "Saul Goodmann", Joey ;) Hmm. Thanks for all the input so far. To be perfectly honest I didn't expect this to be a 50:50 ...

I think Cruwear would be an ideal steel for an XL sprint.

52100 would be another good one.

This. And this.
So... how bout both?

Re: New knife, uneven grind

I can understand that this bothers you. However, I have one Endura with uneven grind and am totally ok with it since it does not affect performance. Even makes the knife somehow more "personal"... Yeah, but I guess this always is just yourself tricking your mind that a certain grade of ca...

New knife, uneven grind

Hi, my Manix 2 XL is my first Spyderco (had to return the first one I got due to some flaws, got one back that was better so I kept it) but I like it quite a bit so far and it might be not my last... The thing is it has an uneven blade grind, the edge bevel coming to the tip is like 30% wider on the...

Re: Kapara, strong compression lock

Most reviews note it as not drop shutty but this one seems to fall shut out of the box, that's how I like them: https://youtu.be/lgmbdG1BaAY (at 7:25)

Hey. Since I'm contemplating becoming a Kapara owner... any updates on the drop shuttiness (if that is a word)?

Re: DLC coat cleaning

Nope, no wear yet, just that superficial streakiness that follows the direction that you're rubbing the blade in when cleaning.
I actually tried Ballistol but found it to be a bit "heavy" on the coating... may try something lighter.

DLC coat cleaning

I have a Manix2XL w/ DLC coating which I very much like but somehow the blade always looks kinda streaky after cleaning, regardless of wether I use soapy stuff, naphtha or just dry clean it with some rag.

I would really like to achieve that smooth uniform factory look again. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Manix 2 XL Question

So....

Returned it, got one back: blade is centered, no lateral blade play, silky smooth action. I'm a happy camper.
Arguebly the best bang for the buck Spyderco right now.

Re: Spyderco Ouroboros

You should send this in. If no one does there's no need for them to consider addressing the flaws in an upgraded version of the Ouroboros.

Also I think 120 bucks is a way more appropriate price for a VG10 blade that runs on teflon washers than $290...

Re: Manix 2 XL Question

Thanks for the input guys. I got the action to break in a bit the last few days, oiled up moving parts, still I don't manage to flick it shut, the blade keeps bouncing back. May be just me but I don't know... Slight loosening and re-tightening of the pivot didn't cure the blade play or the off-cente...
