Re: Fluted CF Native5 In Stk

GP is sold out. Just pulled the trigger on one from Cutlery Shoppe. The Native is my favorite Spyderco, so might as well get the pinnacle version while I can.

The Siren is a backlock with no hump in the PM2-ish size.
With a tiny grip area for the size of the handle, and a huge finger guard that keeps your hand far back from the edge.

Re: 3.8"razor blade

The Watu has a 3.26" blade with 2.92" cutting edge. It's 2.5mm blade stock, FFG with a distal taper. It's not as long as you want, but I think it's along the same lines as what you're looking for.

And what should you do? Clearly some post of yours I've replied to you in the mere six weeks you've been here has set you off so much that you decided to dig up a post of mine from three years ago, and post a ten paragraph reply to it.

Re: Info on cat & para3

The Cat and the Para 3 are similar only in blade steel if you're talking the Para 3 LW. Otherwise, different countries of origin, different handle materials, different locks, different hole hump heights, different blade lengths. The Alcyone is much closer in size to the Para 3 than the Polestar. Wha...

If you want a comp lock knife with the choil and thinner blade stock get a Sage 5 LW. It's the better Para 3 LW.

Re: I’m kind of sad

Sometimes our knife preferences evolve at the wrong time. Maybe that is part of the answer. Perhaps the knife was a bit ahead of its time in some respects for many people. I know I love how rugged the knife is. I mean, this thing is a tank, but it is a tank that can still cut, unlike that company w...

Re: I’m kind of sad

A crazy Op Focus deal from the SFO got me to try a Native 5 LW. Then a Native 5 LW Salt SE cemented the Native 5 as perhaps one of my favorite knives. Prior to that, I was firmly a frame lock guy. I still like my Sage 2 best of any Spyderco I own, but the Native 5 is darn close. I have a Domino as w...

Re: Para 3 Salt, is it going to happen?

I think that something like a PM2 or Millie in a Salt version is a bit more complicated than a backlock. More metal parts, more contact points and potential for galvanic corrosion. More liners which amount to space to trap water and corrosive material. Clearly it’s possible...(the Caribbean exists)...

Re: First Post help needed

I can only add that if it's a dealer exclusive, follow that dealer on your preferred social media site / app. The dealers usually post a notification once Spyderco ships the knives to them, generally stating the the day and time that the knives will be available for purchase on their website. Some d...

Re: Sharpening Sprints and Exclusives

My "yes" should have been a "depends". The REC PM2 with black 10V blade I have is being in the box as trade fodder toward something I've missed (hopefully a CF/S90V Shaman). The AEB-L Urban sprint I have was bought as a user, as was the MGE exclusive teal FRN / S90V Native 5 LW, ...

Re: Cutleryshoppe Exclusive Shaman, Stonewash CTS-XHP, Orange G10

This is interesting. Can anyone tell me how corrosion resistance and edge retention is compared to the standard S30V model? I’ve never owned or used a knife with CTS-XHP so I have nothing judge it against. Not great per Larrin's testing over at Knife Steel Nerds - https://knifesteelnerds.com/2019/1...

The "You're just jealous!" aspect of serious reasioning is usually underlined by denying any valid point, tearful crying and stomping away. Since we can't tell for sure, we have to assume all rules were followed. Nice of you to share a gif of yourself :D . Again, if there's no risk in com...

Use the shock method to break the bond. Works every time an no messing around with heat
Shock doesn't always work in my experience. OP also said he'd tried shock first and it didn't work for him.

Are we really still doing this? There IS risk in doing these runs, regardless of popularity. What is the actual market size? Can you quantify it, to an exact number? Absolutely not and that means, RISK ... Putting words in bold doesn't make them ring more true. Some people are really bad at reading...

Re: Para 3 for large hands?

If the Effecient is a bit small for you, then the Para 3 with the taller thumb ramp and bird's beak at the tail of the handle will likely be an even more cramped fit. The Sage series with the lower thumb ramp and slightly longer handle tail fits my thick fingered hands better than the Para 3. You mi...

Try warming it up with a hair dryer or short blast from a heat gun. Heat usually busts stubborn thread locker.

Re: Using a diamond steel for field touch up

I've stropped steels up to M390/20CV/204P and XHP on plain leather with good results. I use a KME with diamonds if I want to set a bevel. After that, most of my touchups are with ceramic rods on the Sharpmaker or a DMT diafold.

Re: Using graphite and other dry lubes

Graphite is known to create a galvanic corrosion reaction with aluminum. Dr. Google, refreshed my memory from my USAF maintenance days that it needs the presence of chloride ions for that to happen. But that can be as simple as sweat, chlorine bleach, coastal salt air, etc, etc. I'm not sure how it ...

Re: Hard Use Knife

Since you're looking at used knives, I'd try to find a Native 5 LW over a Chap or a Buck 110 for your stated uses. Otherwise, for a hard use back lock for $60 I'd get a new Cold Steel SR1 Lite. I have a Buck 110, sitting here on my desk next to me, and that might be the way to go. I was hoping for ...
