Hi T-Mac, The Ladybug is pretty thin stock for a FFG for the masses, in my opinion. I designed the Manbug with a thicker stock to be the FFG Ladybug. ZDP is an exception, but, again, in my opinion, folks buying ZDP are more conscious of the limitations. sal The zdp manbug is thinner than the others?

How would zdp be as my first supersteel? Still practicing on my sharpening technique, but from what everyone has said, it responds well to most abrasives, unlike the vanadium carbide heavy stuff?

Curious - how low of an angle will these 3 steels hold and not chip out for normal edc tasks (reliably) ?

I'm worried about the cateye rods and pointy tips

How do you keep the tips pointy? I bought a beat up delica and accidentally went too steep, and thickened the bevel

Ah, I read that thinking the Cru wear delica was the expensive knife and cheaper ones did better

S30V is simply a B— to a B+ in all categories, which makes for a good all around steel but doesn't "wow" people who are really into knives. We buy knives for a purpose in mind, and we're usually looking for a blade steel that excels highly in 1-2 categories. Best edge retention? Not s30v....

You could try and hunt down a used g10 one (in vg 10)

Caly 3 also came in g10 and hap40, and less commonly superblue

I do appreciate that overall, Spyderco doesn't have any drastic "mismatches" - certainly nothing like BM's minimalist folder turned "hard use" with 3v

The 4V lil native to me was a weird combo - a tough steel in a tiny folder seems odd, but I guess you can really go ham on it

So which steel/model combinations do you feel bring out the best in each other?

Like the h1 hawkbills in serrated - tough, holds a good edge- the rust proof is the icing

Zome is so polarizing, it can come in HAP40 and still not be sold out, MONTHS later - I don't mind, but it is loud

Also, I worry about rounding the tips off with it I tried to freehand, and can get useable, but not good edges, and I feel like Im removing too much material without getting any results. I should get good at vg10,8cr etc before even thinking about s30v/90v/110v/m390 etc?
