Re: Has Spyderco ever brought back a knife they discontinued? Not including dealer exclusives

I would say that's rather subjective. I am sure Spyderco brings new iterations of models to the market with also the intention of making certain features "better". This does not necessarily though has to be the case then for everyone. To me for example Stretch "1" and Millie &qu...

Re: Has Spyderco ever brought back a knife they discontinued? Not including dealer exclusives

Spyderco is making better knives now than they have in the past. I’ve got an older Police model and it’s great but parts of it look rough compared to today’s production. Same with my first Native.

Time marches on.

Re: AI art knows Spyderco

Yes, I am concerned software will make mistakes, Are you concerned humans will make mistakes? The concern is understandable but keep in mind software is infinitely more testable and verifiable than humans are. but the worst part of it is that the responsibility for mistakes is removed. I’m not sure...

Re: AI art knows Spyderco

How do you feel about structures or bridges “designed” by an “AI?” Ambivalent. Are you concerned the software will make more mistakes than humans? Humans make a lot of mistakes. Such a strange turn this thread took. Is everyone in some kind of mad panic because of some software hat tricks all of a ...

Re: Upping the price.

I’ve got a Spyderco on the way. First I’ve bought in quite a while.

I used to buy used Spydies a lot but the secondary market lately seems mostly dominated by brands I’m not very familiar with.

I’m the bright side I’ve enough Spyderco knives to last me the rest of my life.

The fundamental question people should be asking is:
Is it net positive or net negative?
You pose that question like it affects the outcome. These software tools aren’t going anywhere.

Re: AI art knows Spyderco

That’s actually when it will matter the most! :flushed I'm not bullish on AI putting creators out of business. But I do think a lot of graphic artists will find demand for them reduces, but is replaced by demand for people skilled in using AI-assisted art programs. It's just another technological a...

Re: AI art knows Spyderco

Sure i know that… the difference is there is still someone needed to control those cnc’s. Even if it is one person per 3/4 machines. So you just want a certain number of people watching the robots? CNC is not equivalent to Ai. Not even close. I was referring to his stance against “robots”. Ai is as...

Personally I detest AI and the over use of Robots in the industry.
I’m really curious if you are aware CNC machining is the dominant manufacturing method of knives now. The robots won.

Re: AI art knows Spyderco

So my question s; why AI? What is the advantage other than saving some money for some companies? I dabble in some sort of artistic 3d modeling. I’ve used AI image generators to generate inspirational images and kind of free associate from there. I picked this up from a popular 3d modeler. I think i...

Re: Upping the price.

Was making the kids some lunch today and grabbed a Z-cut out of the drawer and remembered this thread. You can still get these for $22 which honestly is a good price. Looks like they changed the serration pattern though.

Re: Cricket Lightweight

Ah, I'd forgotten I had a Cricket. I loaned it to a friend and it was lost to the TSA knife thieves. I loved that design but never carried it because the thin gap between the liner lock would catch the hairs on my hand when my hand was in the pocket.

Wasn’t the Lil’ Native offered as a back lock, comp lock, and slipjoint?

I would think that Lil’ Native sales might give a good indication of the market’s preferences.
Exception enthusiasts do the damndest things, like buy one of each!

Re: Upping the price.

"User" tools are not necessarily "hard use" tools. Most of our models are not designed for "Hard use" though they'll hold up surprisingly well if pushed. sal Yeah, I hear you. I probably should have said "user", but even though all my knives are users there's...

Re: Upping the price.

Ok here's the other knife that stood out as I was searching the current state of inexpensive but good knives. It's a Miguron Moyarl, crossbar (Axis) lock version. 14C28N blade, micarta scales, titanium clip. $70 street price. https://i.imgur.com/ZBQcEP2l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Iyr5Nybl.jpg https://...

Re: Upping the price.

I can definitely see wanting the cheap beater knife as an option, that is something that I think Chinese options are often good for, although the proliferation of bearings often has me avoiding many of the cheap options if the knife is likely to get dirty. Maybe bearings aren't more of a problem in...

Re: Upping the price.

I don’t think there’s much point in debating FFG pros and cons. It’s simply the standard. There are HG blades out there but they are much, much less common.

Re: Upping the price.

I would be more interested in hearing about manufacturers actually making knives in fair trade countries. sal Sal, have you looked at MKM’s knives lately? They have a Voxnaes design called the Isonzo that is pretty cool. I’ve almost bought one a couple times. $90 street price and made in Italy. I h...

Re: Upping the price.

My single beef (and I’m a nobody, so easily dismissible) is that some Spydercos are Astronomically expensive. Yeah, there's really two veins in this discussion. One is that the higher end Spydercos are crazy pricy. If a friend was pitching me the idea that we were going into the business of selling...
