Re: I'm going over to Buck

I have 2 Buck knives. A folder about 20 years old in 440C and a newer fixed blade in 420HC. How I hate 420HC...

Re: I'm going over to Buck

There's a lot of good in the world, but I can't see how such attitude contributes anything to it. It's really hard not to look at "preppers" as part of the problem, not the solution. Personally, I'd rather be dead than part of a world that has completely lost its humanity. There is, perha...

Re: I'm going over to Buck

Growing up my father and I always fished together a lot. It was the thing we shared the most and we were always very competitive. He would always say, " there are more lures designed to catch fisherman than there are to catch fish ." It has actually always been a fairly profound concept f...

Re: I'm going over to Buck

Switching from one manufactured product (regardless of relative cost or merit) to another seems to me a kinda half measure if the end game is 100% self-sufficiency....Doubly so if that person is using said cutting tool as the most expensive and least effective screwdriver ever made. Excellent point.

I'm still waiting for the proposed bronze mule. I'd buy that in a hurry.

Re: I'm going over to Buck

I've been hearing lots of people speak like the OP did lately. They seem angry and paranoid at some nebulous group of people somewhere in the world that they feel threatened by. I think it's symptomatic of the same social phenomenon that is starting to grip the world right now, on all sides of the a...

Re: Ideal Spyders For Harsh Environments

Hey Ryno that's very impressive and what I like about your test is that is wasn't so much a scientific test done under controlled conditions. You just put that blade through what you perceived as being a set of conditions that you thought would prove whether or not the knife would hold up under bru...

Re: Ideal Spyders For Harsh Environments

I sometimes test things by putting them in the freezer. Of course, that gets nowhere near -30F or -60F like it does in AK. Perhaps someone could find a way to cool an H1 knife down to those temperatures and then test it to see if it becomes brittle. I do not think it will. I have a -80C freezer at ...

Re: School me on super blue...

I've noticed with my SB Delica that the edge seems extremely hard. The RC that I've read Spyderco attained for this steel is consistent with my experience, but the edge feels harder than any other knife I own, even at the same RC. It's really a wonderful knife steel.

Re: VG-10 vs ZDP-189

Hello! I'm deciding between two Delicas. The Delica 4 FFG in VG-10, and the Delica 4 in ZDP-189 (the model on Knife Center, with British Racing Green handle, is it FFG?). I'm wondering, is it worth the extra $30 for ZDP-189, or would VG-10 be good enough? Thanks! ZDP is worth every cent if you arr ...

Re: Sprints and Exclusives Killing Regular Production Models?

If sprints are selling so well, wouldn't it make sense to make more sprints? Give the people what they want! My point is people only have X amount of $ to spend on knives, I'm guessing the majority are like me and prioritise sprints and exclusives as once they're gone they're gone. This year in par...

Re: Sprints and Exclusives Killing Regular Production Models?

After seeing the discontinued list for this year I was just wondering if all the sprints and exclusives could be to blame for the poor sales of regular production knives? Personally, I had a bunch of those discontinued knives on my to buy list but my limited funds always got diverted to pick up a s...

My hands aren't wide, but they are long. I like the Delica and Dfly and never feel like I can't get a grip.

Re: Ideal Spyders For Harsh Environments

JD, one of the harshest enviroments is outer space and there have been Spyderco knives used or at least potentially used for that. What would you personally think of a Spyderco/Randall Astro like combination? To update you here is a pic of the Randall Astro: RandallAstroGreat.jpg Now, picture a Spy...

Re: Spyderco Steels??

Hey all! I'm a newbie to Spyderco, and I'd like to start collecting their knives. I've been looking around, and I was wondering what the best steel to buy would be. I'm torn between the Para 2 Blurple in S110V, the KC Exclusive HAP40/SUS410 Pakkawood Delica 4, and the Grey G-10 Maxamet Para 2. What...

Re: Best steel for sharp edges

So my take on this is that the Sharpmaker is about a $50 system that is probably the best bang for the buck at that price range by a long shot. But if you up the ante to $200 or so you can decide if you want the KME or Edge Pro or who knows what else and up your game. And if you are a real edge jun...
