scalpels

Freeman brings up a good point. Just as great chefs use custom kitchen knives and are very protective of same, do great surgeons have their own set of custom (german?) scalpels in a cool little case they take into the OR? [Off topic]........Wait I hear the music of "The Hustler" and Fast E...

Disposable

Ok, I see. Use it once and throw it away. So there is no big premium on high quality steel and...as proven on this forum so many times...cutting flesh is pretty easy to do. Surgery then, is not a big test of either sharpness or high quality steel..... the term "surgical steel" is more mark...

VG-10, Surgical?

I proudly whipped out my Navigator VG-10 recently to show a friend who is in metal sales, he said "oh yeah, vg-10, surgical steel". Cool, I thought. So now I wonder, are scalpels made of VG-10, after all, the knife of surgery would seem to be the ultimate in taking an edge, and by the way,...

Good stuff

Hmm, lateral stresses and torque ...you're right, then we can't complain about bladeplay ! Twas a good idea while it lasted. BUT...what about it being integral to the backspacer. Say, an extended backspacer with an enlarged lanyard hole/ opener (that would require some mighty fat paracord :) ). I s...

Great concept

Love the idea of a bottle opener stamped into a blade. It would be soo cool to slice the bratwurst and open a Heine in one swift move. This would seem like a no brainer but has not been done. Why? Maybe cause it is too dangerous. The lateral stress on any folder blade may eventualy snap the knife in...

Navigator comes home

Thanks to fourm members got a lead on the venerable Navigator at a good price. Receive N and send out to STR for some new clothes, i.e., Green Micarta and a ti low rider clip. This little folder has the same great ergos as the Dodo and I now have both. Thanks Spyderco and STR.

Seek and ye shall find

One of my favorites. The epitome of functional KIS design and ergonomics. Also love the little brother "Stree Beat".

What about the burr?

I have used the Sharpmaker with great success, not hair popping success but I am a hero with the MIL and family with kitchen knives. Wanting to get even better, I began reading about sharpening. One constant theme is the burr. With the sharpmaker however, because you are doing both sides at the same...

Caveat Emptor

I got one of the PE Nav 2 from Sierra. Maybe this is just a fluke but blade is cracked.

Super deal

Got me a Navigator 2.

Already sent it off to STR for some custom green micarta slabs and low-rider clip. The size and ergos on this knife are perfect for me. The VG-10 surgical steel is too sharp OTB. This will be my EDC.

Thanks for the tip.

Hair popping - Myth

I know this has been beaten to death and thats why I was so dissapointed with my own efforts. I bought the Sharpmaker, I bought some Spyderco kitchen knives for my MIL, I keep them sharp and now I am the numero uno son in law. Their knives are sharp and they are happy but I keep looking for better r...
