NICE poliwog. Somehow I think the poliwog is an unappreciated model. I would take one over a delica any day. It in my opinion epitomizes spyderco's "little big knife" philosophy, If only they offered a more enticing variety of blade grinds and steels, I think they would attract more attent...

And this is where someone notes a bit of a fixed blade deficit in spydie's lineup.

^ Exactly. Custom work is a PITA, especially for a production oriented company. There are hundreds of guys out there who offer mods exactly like this. I would also be willing to bet that, secretly, spyderco will also look after their customers even if you did disassemble the knife so long as you did...

Heh, nicely put. Though it interests me, I partially wanted it to be available as potential input to the designers too, so I'll leave you alone on that. Thanks though. I very much appreciate your understanding on this matter. Upon reflection I also realize though that a design I could contribute to...

I just want to address one thing quickly here. There seems to be this concept that if you live in a dry landlocked area the rust resistance of H1 is superfluous. While it very well may be to some people, other people use their knives as multipurpose tools. Just as an example I would be willing to be...

Yes its very interesting.... I have noticed that spyderco seems to have a problem selling their fixed blades. There is no denying that folders are more popular. As far as the design strengths go there really still is no debate, as I am sure you are aware. Well I guess then it would fall on those of ...

Ok for the sake of moving past the mule argument I'll accept that it isn't reasonable for the time being. Does this mean you accept that there is potential for a fixed blade design which would be reasonably popular, effective, and relatively inexpensive to produce?

Let's see: too expensive, too expensive, too expensive, looks too cheap, disagree with design. So, what you're asking for is a knife that uses the same steel, is manufactured in the same place (because it has to be), uses more of the steel (in the case of the Aqua's tang), looks more expensive (Aqu...

You are running around in circles, rather than trying to see the point. This is America, and we have the most sophisticated production capabilities in the world. It is simply absurd to suggest that no person or facility would be capable of producing flat ground H1 blades. I hope you realize that. I ...

So you are telling me that Tom Krein is the only guy who can put a full flat grind on a knife at an almost reasonable price in the world? Sounds more like an excuse than a reason to me. Overall I think the lack of interest in the H1 fixed blades, and potentially the whole H1 line, is a baseless fear...

The point of the mules is, as I see it, both an identical design and pushing the limits with materials. Believe me I am not suggesting a flat grind for an H1 production knife, but I think it would be worth the extra effort for a mule. Now whether doing this would be erring on the difficult side or i...

I had a crazy idea..... its not the first time. Anyway my thought was how about an H1 mule? This sounds wacky but bear with me. Part of what I like about the mule project is it FINALLY is a level playing field to compare different steels. No more trying to sort trough the effects of different blade ...

I was always a little disappointed by the tang of the aqua salt. I would really like to see something using the full tang of the Jumpmaster, but with a plain edge and a different point to improve penetration. As far as the rock salt goes I am not surprised it had to go. A knife of that size puts it ...

I confess I haven't used the larger spyderhawk, only the smaller tasmian salt, and I didn't really find them equivalent. I would argue though that, assuming the price point would be similar, the spyderhawk could probably be phased out and replaced by the proposed knife as part of spyderco's CQI plan...

Product suggestions

I don't know to what degree product design input is accepted from customers, especially through this medium, nevertheless I have a product suggestion for spyderco: This isn't exactly revolutionary, but I think logical and I am a bit surprised it hasn't been done already. It would seem that making a ...
