At a loss to them or you? Thats good incentive to get it right ;) I never considered the subtlety of forming, but now that you mention it of course the forming conditions would be affected if the metal was harder/softer. What grade steels were you using? The sheet metal was just cold rolled probabl...

I was wondering why they display the data sheets with heat treat info, lol. Yeah, it was rolling Sal was talking about that got me interested...its nice to imagine what spy does in house and what they spec out. Why im interested in the workflow of tool manufacturers is beyond me, but there it is. T...

I would like to see one out of the Taichung Taiwan factory with the same construction as the Tuff. I would buy two of those as fast as I could just like I did with the Tuff. I have a line on a Chinook 1 in lightly used condition but they have not replied to my questions yet, I doubt I will be buying...

I think it depends on heat treatment, edge geometry, blade thickness, and how it sharpened. I have had both steels but not in identical knives. When S30V first came out I really wanted a blade made from that and I was a little dissapointed that it dulled sort of fast, then I had a custom knife made ...

I think in order to measure something that fine you need inspection quality equipment like a comparator or a autocollimator and the autocollimator is $1000 and a comparator is even more. I guess it depends how precise you want to get. One of the most accurate tools for angles is a bevel protractor b...

Do you find that with such a upswept blade like the Chinook 3 that it will slide out of the cut more so than a blade like the Military that might keep the tip in longer for a better slashing cut. I don't own either blade so just curious what the experts think.

Thanks to you and everyone that responded. Should I expect anything in the future with a slight undersized pivot? I say if the pivot screws are still turning with enough resistance that they won't loosen up then adjust it to how you like it and leave it alone, if the screws turn very easy you might...

I have always had the urge to get into mountain biking, but the Mrs. and the kids don't ride as well as I do and I'd be the only one enjoying myself or even making it through some of the trails around here so we stick to paved paths. There's a 75 mile paved path that stretches across most of Ohio t...

Raced road bikes for a couple of years but as we lived on the north shore of Vancouver I just got more and more into mountain biking. I still ride the road but I find I spend most of my time in the hills. I have an all mountain bike (Speicalized Enduro pro carbon) and a down hill bike (Specialized ...

That's a nice clean looking bike, I bet it weighs nothing. After I upgraded the seat the pedals were my next upgrade also nothing like a nice set of clipless pedals. That looks like a very short wheelbase I bet it handles great.

I only use eBay as a last resort I have had good luck with Amazon so far. Now I can figure out what angle I am using with my Lansky I hope if not I might make a fixtur...

So do you use your pool table for shooting pool or just as a work bench, I really miss mine since I moved into a apartment.

Cool your quite the extreme daredevil. I never rode BMX but as a kid I always wanted to my dad would not get me a bike like that. Now I am way to big for a BMX. That's a sweet Voyageur I like the old school bikes with the down tube shifters, I was looking for one down here but it seems the used bike...

Tell me about this angle cube and how you use it when you sharpen your knives. If possible a pic and a brand name would help it sounds like I need one of these, maybe a pic showing how you use it when your sharping a knife. Thanks

Sounds good, I doubt I could keep up right now especially in the mountains out there. I use to ride a lot before I was injured at work in 2000, my last year of riding I rode 4000 miles in 3 months and I had not been on a bike since. So its a slow process now but I can still do 15 miles a few times a...

I guess if they were using them like that then its ok if you do the same but they have holes in anvils for the same thing. Do a google search on how 123 blocks are used and most of the time its for set ups and inspection, not pounding on. They are precision ground Parallel and square and usually sol...

Nice review, I carry the Tuff as my EDC and like to see anything posted about it. The thick blade does have its drawbacks but I figure that if I do ever need it for something like a survival or cutting someone out of a car it should do the job. There are always people driving into the retention pond...

Your 123 blocks are more for set up than pounding on get the anvil, I have a mini anvil somewhere with my leather tools, I use it for snaps and rivets or just about anything light duty. I was a machinist for 16 years and used 123 blocks for set ups on the Bridgport or for drilling fixtures but they ...
