Re: The Sage: A stellar EDC

It's definitely stellar. Unfortunately, for me it fits neatly into the neither-fish-nor-fowl niche, and never gets carried. A little bigger than I want in the house, and when I go out I'm likely to grab something much bigger. Plus, mine is a Sage 5 which I found cheap. Maybe I should try to score o...

Re: Native 5 or Delica 4

Which one do you guys like best between the Native and Delica? I’m trying to decide between the two both have the same Steel so that is not a factor. The knife would be used for edc tasks. Can't go wrong with either, they're both proven designs that have undergone multiple iterations. I've used bot...

Re: let's settle this once and for all

Poll fail no Chaparral It doesn't have a family, does it? Love wolves are the reason I put "other". I was limited to 10 poll options and wouldbt list every model even if I could. I'm pretty sure the Sage & Chaparral belong to the same family. Besides the visual similarity in terms of ...

Re: Yojumbo as EDC

Does anyone here EDC the yojumbo? Is it a decent carry blade? Any pitfalls to carrying a blade in that style? (laws aside) I regularly carried a Yojumbo as my EDC & work knife for a few months right around the time it became available. In terms of utility, the only drawback was it was more awkw...

Definitely getting these once they become available at any of my local retailers: Microjimbo (satin & DLC) Lil' Temperance 3 Lightweight in K390 Native 5 Salt PE in MagnaCut Some "maybe" purchases, depending on availability & how much room I have in my budget: Native Chief Lightwei...

Re: Native Chief Lighweight SPY27

Still haven't tried spy27 and it sounds like a steel I'd enjoy using. I think you will. I find it one of, if not, the easiest to sharpen of all the Crucible particle metallurgy stainless steels I've tried. It reminds me a bit of CPM-154 in this regard. And in terms of edge retention, I can't really...

Re: “Best” steels video with Larrin

How we sharpen and what we cut influences our results more than which steel we are using. This. So much this. I don't doubt it when people in this forum claim that LC200N can equal or even surpass S30V in edge-holding, but I think what's happening is that the ease of sharpening of LC200N means they...

Re: What knife makes you smile whenever you carry it?

Carrying & using the Lil' Temperance 3 Lightweight always makes me smile. Functionally, it ranks up there with the Yojimbo 2 as far as my favourite work knife (I can't wait for the K390 version of the LT3LW to drop—that would make it my top work knife for sure), but I get an extra helping of fee...

Re: Looking for an improvised Yojimbo 'light.' Any suggestions?

Can I ask please, what is your preferred grip for D4? In other words, where is your thumb is located when you grip Delica 4? I just tried to grip my Pacific Salt with the thumb on the blade (to call it filipino is a big word from my side) and it feels like loosing control over the knife. I usually ...

Re: Looking for an improvised Yojimbo 'light.' Any suggestions?

Yojimbo 2 quickly became one of my favorite Spydercos in the mid-size category lately. However, I started thinking about alternatives for situations when I wear lightweight shorts or some nice chinos and need a knife with similar characteristics but a slightly slimmer profile and one that's less ab...

Re: FOMO or No?

Do you have a fear of missing out? I used to, years ago. If I found any knife models even remotely interesting, I had to have one. On average, I used to buy at least two knives per month. Including multiples of the same models, if I liked them. I own many versions of the Delica, Endura, etc., etc. ...

Re: A Month Without Spyderco: Thoughts & Observations

I see lots of nice designs and great steel made in China; but for me it's the heat treatment. I can always trust Spyderco to get the heat treatment right whereas I'm not that confident in Chinese heat treatment. The two biggest Chinese makers (one whose name rhymes with "miser", the other...

Re: Why carry two?

Well, if we're starting to count non-Spydercos, then I will have to revise my answer & say that I carry at least 3 knives at work most days. Whatever mid- or full-size Spyderco I'm carrying in my right backpocket that day, plus the plain 154CM blade & the serrated 420HC blade on the Leatherm...

Pretty sure the same thing happened last year, too when they posted the 2023 disco list. And it also sometimes happens whenever the Reveal catalog debuts. As others have mentioned, it's probably just the site struggling to keep up with all the extra traffic coming from the Instagram & Facebook l...

I don't believe a steel change (only) has ever led to a new sku, and they only get marked discontinued if the sku is.
Ah, that's too bad. I was hoping the Waterway and the Siren being disco'ed (the latter from last year's list) meant they were going to be reintroduced as MagnaCut models.

Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List

Between that, and choice of scale color maybe? I know some of the guys I know that are into knives, are intimidated by K390 (novice sharpening skills and/or equipment) But I do know none of them cared for my K390 Endela when I had that for while, because of the hue of blue. I'm willing to bet if th...

You wouldn't even need a carefully conducted study to notice a difference, here's an example of something that would prove very easily this concept [... ] I agree that hardness is an important factor and may be the main factor if you are running very obtuse edge bevels. Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List

I wonder if the large number of value line & Byrd models in 8Cr13MoV being disco'ed means the possible move from 8Cr13MoV to 9Cr18MoV that Sal said they were considering several months ago is finally happening, or if they're withdrawing from that segment altogether to focus on their more premium...
