Re: Now's The Time: For A New Hawkbill II
My experience browsing eBay is that if it can fall off or be lost it will. Lots of those handle inserts didn't stay put over the years. Possibly just wrong adhesive or poor process.

Re: Spyderco copies
There are outright fakes all over, is that what you're talking about? Or are you referring to some Benchmades having thumb holes?

Re: SE Recommendation
For a budget option, the Tenacious in SE is a fierce FFG/SE blade that you don't mine abusing. As far as the 8CrMoV13 steel, it's very serviceable in SE. You pretty much have to turn an SE blade upside down to keep it from cutting. I've been totally won over by the Lil Matriarch lately. Hard to find...

I've done a lot of dumb things with knives but never closed one on myself. I get that some liner locks can bite you, but a Spyderco? How was your finger in there?

I'd love to see a blind test of the different mules. I doubt anyone could sort them all out. It would take months to figure it out from cutting tests.Ryno wrote:I bet some on here could figure it out.

Re: Now's The Time: For A New Hawkbill II
So I recently picked up a Lil Matriarch. I bought on a total whim. It just looked cool. I've found the reverse S shaped blade to be perfectly usable for EDC. I've never been 100% happy with a hawkbill for EDC. I'm a little confused why it got discontinued... I mean, obviously due to sales, but it's ...

Re: Spyderco Watch???
I'm sure Spyderco could slap their logo on someone else's watch. That may not be a bad idea. I'd like more non-knife products from them (shirts, etc).
I doubt it's a very lucrative business, selling watches to Spyderco fans.

Re: Original Ten Spyderco Knives?
My GIN-1 Native (late 90's) has great fit but poor finish compared to the basically identical S30v version I got around 2008. But most of the older Japanese models I've picked up use seem to be equal to what we get out of Japan today.

Re: Tip regrinding tips
I would start with a medium bastard file and see how it goes. I don't think Spyderco does their H-1 super hard. For that amount of material it will probably go quickly and you'll find you have more control than on a grinder if you're not experienced with grinding blades. Finish with wet dry sandpape...

Re: Blatent attempt to steal IP
A direct copy? I'm not a lawyer and know very little about trademark infringement. But copying things isn't automatically legally actionable. As Spyderco fans we may not like this but IP is not the same as real property and it doesn't work like you might want it to. It may not be obvious to people w...

Re: Blatent attempt to steal IP
I didn't read the whole thread but it just looks like one of those threads where everybody says what they want their favorite manufacturer to make. Spyderco's site doesn't list any patents. So before you start throwing around terms like "steal IP" you might want to make sure IP exists in t...

Re: Quintessential Small Spydie?
And some people will not buy it just because it made in People's Republic of China Really? You want to turn this nice thread about small knives into some geopolitical argument? Why? All I said is the Ambitious is a good small knife, especially on a budget. If you don't buy knives made in China and ...

Re: Quintessential Small Spydie?
DFly2 is worth every penny but the small knife sector is flooded with much cheaper options. cheaper doesn't mean better Actually, for a lot of people it does. $50 for a tiny knife is a hard sell for a lot of people. I would love to see a Dragonfly from Spyderco's Chinese factory that cost $25. I wo...

Re: Quintessential Small Spydie?
Sure, the Dragonfly is a decent knife, but I prefer the Copilot to it. Just feels up the hand better for me. The Navigator is also an interesting small knife. Weird, any idea why they ground it that way?
It's a pretty knife but I think at what these retail for we are past the "function" requirement.
