Re: Recommend a high end chef's knife for wife

A while ago i bought these two 210 mm gyuto's, custom made by the Sabol Brothers in Slovakia. Besides knifemakers the brothers are also steelheads, and they always go the extra mile to make sure their knives get the best heat treatment possible, complete with deep cryo. The idea for me was to have t...

Re: Rehabilitating Old Leather? Especially Old Leather Washers

Warm waxed leather definitely becomes a bit harder/stiffer when the wax cools, but so far i have found no disadvantages with that. Too much wax on the handle surface is easily removed by clamping the blade on a table or workbench and then with a narrow strip of cloth (i use strips of old towel) usin...

Re: Rehabilitating Old Leather? Especially Old Leather Washers

If the original leather washers can be salvaged that would be preferable. In those cases i tend to disassemble the stack, number each washer, and work a bit on guard and pommel. Then rebuild the stack using a good quality leather glue between the washers and put on the pommel to keep everything in p...

Re: Elastic Ceramic

The better quality ceramic knives can be sharpened (or rather polished) to a very high sharpness and hold it quite well: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/forever-sc-16wb-ceramic-knife.1206014/ I expect Roman Kase's elastic ceramic knives will be no problem regarding that aspect. The main question...

My old NYKC Hammer Brand two-blade jack knife. Both blades were hand reground to a shallow convex with a ~30 degrees inclusive microbevel. https://i.ibb.co/3TzsQ7z/GE-DIGITAL-CAMERA.jpg https://i.ibb.co/cryGDdv/GE-DIGITAL-CAMERA.jpg https://i.ibb.co/1rZ8GNb/GE-DIGITAL-CAMERA.jpg https://i.ibb.co/wNq...

Sounds interesting! What can you tell us about it? Who makes one? Hardly anything. I know that these machines exist, and that the smaller versions can be used at home or in an office. There used to be a company called Ecoloblue, but i don't know if they are still in business. Older online reviews s...

Recently acquired this venerable Buck 110 no-dot from the 1972-1974 timeframe which had a rounded point, no edge, and a handle filled with crud. Cleaned everything with tootpicks, an old tootbrush with diluted detergent, and lastly an ultrasonic cleaner. Then polished the brass and hand reground the...

Re: Sawzall blades - regrind into cheap knife blades?

That smaller M2 knife lies in my display cabinet as i still need to make a sheath for it. I use it fairly often for cutting cardboard, which it does very well. In the past i've even used it a few times to finish shaving my head when my electric clipper broke down. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/...
