Re: Freehand sharpening: a conversion in progress?

Spyderco makes some very nice stones. My personal setup is the Spyderco medium bench stone for maintaining my edge, and a DMT XX course for reprofiling bevels. Which medium? I see the 303 and the 302. I’m leaning toward the 302 because it’s wider, are there any other functional differences? I too p...

Re: Freehand sharpening: a conversion in progress?

Grinding the spine down can do wonders when trying to restore a pointy tip. Exactly what I did! I discovered I think the tip was blunted because the backspacer was replaced with standoffs. Which looked great but allowed the tip to be easily brushed by anything entering the pocket or otherwise brush...

Freehand sharpening: a conversion in progress?

I recently received a fantastic deal on a Techno 1. The point was a bit blunted, not terribly but enough that the tip wouldn’t even penetrate paper. I love my sharpmaker and I’ve used it to restore talon like pointy tips to both of my crickets and my friend’s Delica. But I couldn’t get the tip back ...

Re: What was your first Spyderco?

Black FRN ATS-55 Cricket. Circa 2000.

It is so far the only Spyderco I’ve never sold. It also still frequently gets pocket time, though the liner lock face goes all the way to scale now.

Re: New Brouwer offering?

This is so reminiscent of how a small number of complaints about the Para 3 clip blew up into a small internet storm. The options here are the same. Don’t buy it. Buy it and buy a different clip. Buy it and use it as-is. There is another option with the Para 3 which is to move the clip. I’m sure Sp...

Thank you. The weird thing is, I thought the PM2 and para 3 had the same hole pattern. And I was lead to believe that it was different from the Benchmade pattern.

I think the para2 and para3 are the same. The only difference in the MXG offerings is clip length.

Is that a para 3 clip?
Yes, the MXG is one of their para 3 clips.

The Lynch does too! :)
I like that the Lynch has all three screws; the MXG only uses two. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I may get the Lynch too.

Re: New Brouwer offering?

I have a question about the overall size. Has anyone tried taking the clip off and just dropping it in the pocket? I’m curious on its pocket manners for lack of better words. My father in law would not use the clip and is in need of a good knife to replace an old cheap one. It’s marginally longer a...

Re: Coyote Urban/UKPK

SSSsssoooo. We've got Coyote tan (no color listing for Coyote brown) and we've got earth brown (like the new exclusive Para3). ????? sal I like both the tan and the brown, but I’d lean toward tan first. But if we’re talking G10 UKPK I’ll take any color you want to put on it. I miss my original blac...

Re: New Brouwer offering?

I got it on Monday. It’s fantastic. Everything I was expecting. Sal / Spyderco and Jerry Brouwer did a marvelous thing here. The clip is definitely awkward when pocketed. I think it’s size and placement has everything to do with ergonomics. Still, I measured it and it appears to be the Para2 clip, s...

Re: New Brouwer offering?

If anyone has this yet, can you verify if it’s the same clip as the PM2 or para3? I’d like to look at some clip alternatives but want to make sure they’re compatible. My Brouwer will be here this week, but I don’t have the anything else with that style clip to compare.

I really like the FRN texture and liner lock over the smooth TI and frame lock of the original. Reminds me of my FRN Cricket.
This is why I keep being tempted by the lightweight squarehead. It reminds me a lot of the old FRN cricket. I’d love that to make a comeback.

Re: New Brouwer offering?

Well I couldn’t resist and just used the camp saver coupon and placed my order. $140 for this seems perfectly priced, it might just kick my current favorite Benchmade 698 out of my pocket. Yep. Me too! Switched my preorder from amazon to campsaver. $140 is a great deal. And it appears to be around ...
