Re: What is this on the new Spydiechef lock bar?

Before believing this I would like to see some video of these discrepancies. neither of my CQI Chefs have exhibited this, granted one is a back up and the other gets used allot. Video can be easily uploaded to IMGR and shared here. I have purchased several knives that come from that factory and the...

Re: What is this on the new Spydiechef lock bar?

Got two CQI Chefs and both have major stick, lock play (vertical and horizontal), as well as the detent play. None of these bother me enough to return to Spyderco, but it is an interesting data-point nonetheless. I also had a Gayle Bradley 1 lock fail on me and nearly cut my index finger right off ...

Re: What is this on the new Spydiechef lock bar?

I also had a Gayle Bradley 1 lock fail on me and nearly cut my index finger right off when I was trying to drill a hole in a plastic cover of vehicle (usually an easy task with most knives, but some of you here may scream “abuse!”) I have to assume you were twisting the handle of the knife with sig...

Re: ZDP-189 vs. HAP40?

I prefer ZDP, personally. Never had chipping or breaking issues, but I only use knives as knoves, Not as screw drivers or prybars. Your use and mileage may vary. If you want a good premium feeling steel, then HAP40 is a great way to go. If you want a true Supersteel that will impress you with its ed...

Re: native salt!

I personally got disappointed in this model.
The knife handle is too blocky with hot-spots where it terminates by the blade (4 protruding corners), and it makes it nearly impossible to grab very tightly without regretting it.

A contoured handle would transform this knife to an absolute gem..!

Re: Never had this happen before, help

That’s exactly why I’m a huge advocate for burr-minimization. When you’re novice, it’s easy to create a huge wire over your edge and get frustrated with your sharpening progress, thus continuing to raise more burr and this make it more difficult to get a clean edge at the apex. Now, there’s much sai...

I own the larger utility knife as well as the Santoku from this same collection, and these two are my favourite kitchen knife pairing of all times!

Re: Spydiechef vs Kapara

Both great knives, with the Chef having the better steel (even though I don't mind S30V). The OP asked to exclude talk of materials, and give feedback on design, mostly. In that regard, there're a few points I'd like to make. Firstly, the Chef is a heavier knife, with a much more understated design ...

Re: Some things I would like to see from Spyderco ... you?

Would love to see more Lc200N models. Full flat ground LC200N Wharnnies from the sale line would be great! More slipjoints are welcome. Especially with new, exciting and experimental steels. Way cheaper to buy into a slipjoint with fancy steel vs. other models with fancy steel. More kitchen knives!!...

Re: Future plans for the UKPK?

A Salt version would be amazing, as long as it uses LC200N. I love the steel and the UKPK so it is a no brained for me.

Maxamet would be a great option since it’d be on the affordable side of Maxamet folders (even for Spyderco).

Please keep it as a leafshape.

Re: UKPK Spring design and wearing point

Hi RazorSharp, We've not had problems with that part of the spring. We've also tried a variety of different materials, heat treats and grinds on the spring. Always trying to improve. It's a new concept and like many new concepts, there is an evolution to refinement. I'm sure if you have a problem, ...

Re: UKPK Spring design and wearing point

I've heard of one broken spring but it seems extremely rare. Personally not worried about it and confident Spyderco would take care of it if the spring ever failed. I typically also close the UKPK with my index finger on the spine as you described. Here is the thread: //forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic...

UKPK Spring design and wearing point

Hi all, I recently noticed that there's a slight polished indent point on the inside of my S110V UKPK's spring where the tang/choil hits it during closing. Now, it usually isn't an issue with a typical traditional knife, and is quite common because the kick hits the inside of a traditional knife's s...

Razorsharp asked? Earlier in this thread Sal wrote this. Your answers should be there. Carpenters are the CTS steels. I personally think that anything can be used for SD if one has the knowledge or the motivation to use it as such. A fork, a glass bottle, a stick, frying pan and many more objects as these could possibly increase one's chances to defend himself in a bad situation. Yet, it only increases one's chance...

Hi Vassili. We're not likely to switch "all production" to any one steel. I like the different flavors available. We have 5 or 6 more Carpenter steels to "play with". We are also loyal to Crucible. They make excellent product and they've always been good to work with. sal Can yo...

When nozh stated it's the best steel, it only means best for him, or from his personal experience. Stating it, even if it's not a well known fact, should not be followed by the load of doubting posts, and people claiming they want a full report regarding the tests which were executed... I personally...
