The Forester was produced quite a while ago and I do remember cases where Spyderco included Tek-Lok's with their fixed blades, probably before the G-clip even existed, don't know. This one is probably of later stock with a G-clip.

I have a no-brand stainless cheapo throwing star, they sure are fun and don't require much skill to just make it stick. Cheaper ones will work just fine for what they cost. That's pretty much how I did it too. I just started by sanding down the hump. When working with the tip I only went one way (pulling motion) so I wouldn't poke into things. FRN Manix2 is NOT out yet, it is a pre-order. The same pre-order exists in Knifecenter and Knifeworks for example, they just list it as a pre-order.

The tip should be like a frigging needle. If the "straight mark" is parallel to the grind lines it might be an imperfection, if its not, it's a scratch from... somewhere. Doesn't sound new to me, hope you didn't pay too much for it. Pics will help. :)
