Re: Cost Cutting on Sprderco's Higher End Models, Why?
Not a great analogy, but this discussion reminds me of wedding ring shopping when I was researching platinum vs rhodium plated white gold rings. Platinum is a silvery white metal through and through. White gold still has a yellow tint, hence the rhodium plating. But why wouldn't a jewelry customer j...

Re: Cost Cutting on Sprderco's Higher End Models, Why?
I think it's important to remember to differentiate peel ply and laminate. Peel ply is just a surface texture- the texture on most plain slab-sided G10 knives is peel ply. This texture is also used on some of Spyderco's solid CF knives, like on the Manix 2 CF 154CM/S90V sprint. Not all of Spyderco's...

Re: Nick's question of "why"?
Just imagine the naming confusion when we get to the 3rd generation Paramilitary (Paramilitary 3), and a 2nd generation Para 3 (Para 3 2??) :p I appreciate Nick responding to this thread directly. I agree with the point that the fatigue sets in with companies that churn out endless models that are s...

"Knife Shaped Objects". I like that. I'm using that term from now on.

Re: Nick's question of "why"?
I like seeing classic models too, but I see nothing wrong with linerlocks, framelocks, flippers etc. I think linerlocks and framelocks are popular because of their simplicity and versatility for different knife designs. Many folding knives have liners for strength and rigidity, why not just use one ...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
Should on track for sometime this Fall, last I heard. Keeping my fingers crossed. In the meantime, I've finally kicked my XM out of its permanent place in my pocket for the past 3 years (it sort of has a special sentimental value to me) and am rotating it with a Manix2LW and a PM2. Having dabbled on...

Re: Time Capsule Knife Gift
I'd want to get him something from this year. Either the Forum model, or an exclusive or sprint from this year, or even a new model that was introduced this year. I realize that doesn't narrow things down much though =P

Re: non-knife people with great knives
I had to Google the Zowada. Boy is that a beaut of a knife. From a collector's viewpoint, that really sucks. But on the plus side, he was using it a bunch, which means he must have enjoyed it on some level.

Re: non-knife people with great knives
I feel like no matter what the item in question may be, some people are just the type that will research and educate themselves deeply. Others will purchase something because it was there in the store at the time and met their criteria, and never think about it again. I've found myself falling into...

Wow. Great observations here! And that Waterway looks stunning. A clean sleek design. I've gotta get my hands on one of these when they come out. A rust proof worry free fixed blade sounds fantastic to me.

This thread has been a fun read. I love that sales pitch. You could probably sell me anything.

Re: non-knife people with great knives
It is still a bit odd though, given that a plastic handled variant of a Spyderco with premium blade steel is not something I'd have thought a nonAfi would have unless it was a gift. If he was a nonAfi and bought it himself surely he'd have questioned why he had to pay extra for the color blue and wh...

Re: Why no sharpening choil?
Likewise, my interpretation is that damages caused by the alteration aren't covered. So if you add a sharpening choil improperly (say, with a triangular file) and the blade snaps at the stress riser caused by the triangular choil, then warranty won't cover that. Or if you scratch or gouge the finish...

Re: Reinhold Rhino Update
I'd guess it's because of the cutout for accessing the thumbhole, which usually also doubles as a cutout for lock access on liner and frame lock knives.

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
Hi TheOklahomie, thanks for the all the enthusiasm! I'd also love for the design to do well enough to get some sprints. Unfortunately, I don't have any updates on ETA yet, but I'm definitely excited about it being in the mid-year catalog (and seeing Nick Shabazz mention it when he did his mid year c...

Re: Spyderco Rhino Grande please!!
A pic of the Grande from Mr. Rheinhold's site. Great looking blade but if Spyderco does the grande, I hope they do away with the bolster and use a solid CF/Laminte for the scales. https://static.wixstatic.com/media/02772d_1d26229cdce9454a82ba17d3cddc2a63~mv2_d_2016_1512_s_2.jpg_srz_1366_1025_85_22_...
