For anyone wondering, I think the rough surface on the lockbar insert is tungsten carbide (same stuff used in drillbits). It is deposited on the surface by carbidizing, a welding type process where tiny particles are melted into the base metal. The carbide is very hard and wear resistant making the ...

Something similar has happened with my Poliwog (exposed BB lock as well) after I had disassembled it for cleaning, I think the springs were sort of out of whack, I got it to close but barely. I took it apart again, found nothing wrong, put it back together and it was working again. Try to look at th...

I would just also like to point out that to us knifenuts who are already familiar with KAI's other lineups (Kershaw, Zero Tolerance), the Shun's seem like a very good (and natural) high end choice with a good steel (meaning the VG10 and better models). But there are a good load of other very nice VG...

First of all the Sharpmaker will be good for sharpening your kitchen knives. :) I'm currently using a Shun Wasabi set and I love it, the steel is very easy to sharpen and taes a ridiculous edge and holds it rather long, probably not as good as VG10, maybe somewhat close to AUS8? But at 20-30$ IMO it...

Fiberglass reinforced co-polymer. First of all, some FRN molds are in Japanese factories, and the FRCP is currently in use only in the Golden factory so we aren't sure how well the FRCP that Spyderco uses is available in Japan. Second, the only problem I could see in doing this is whether or not liq...

Good timing Chuck. Thanx. We're discussing that now. I think there is also some discussion about making it a forum knife. Eric's handling the projedct. sal I don't say this often but please no! A forum knife for me (and I bet I'm not the only one...) would be a pure collectors piece, and S110V woul...

Civilian is definitely not for that kind of use (purely SD) the tip is not suitable for utilitarian use. I would just get the H1 SpyderHawk, H1 is tough and will take a beating, it will however need a bit more sharpening than VG-10 (PE that is), SE should perform about as good as it's VG-10 counterp...

Seems like I'm not the only one who looked like this  upon seeing it. :D Only downside is the clip really. Might have to get someone put one on it. :p As far as the price goes, people seem to compare it to the GB, but if you look closely you can see several factors that account for the price. F...
