Re: MagnaCut Fine Edge Retention

Yes it does keep the finer edge longer than other stainless steels. It behaves similar to mid-high carbide volume tool steels in fact. However, for some reason, it does not respond the strop as well as other steels. Do not get me wrong stropping still works on it but not as effective as other steel...

Re: Shot Show recap, thoughts, things I learned

Thank you for the kind words. It was nice meeting you and having an in-depth discussion about our favorite subject. Spyderco knives! I fondled essentially every spyderco I have ever considered (and more) at the Shot Show. Probably 30 or more models, and had a surprising revelation. Frame Locks - I t...

A Deeper Investigation into Spyderco Diamond vs cBN: Which is better?! Why!?

For as long as I can remember, there has been two options available for the Spyderco sharpmaker. Electroplated diamond or electroplated cBN. I've always felt it was a mystery and what I liked about Spyderco is that they offered both options for end line users to determine the differences However, it...

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange

Good to hear that Spyderco releases Rex121 model. I am using ~3.5" rex121 knife made by BBB and loving its high yield strength, edge longevity, and ease of sharpening. King of slicing steel, IMO. I'm glad to hear. I won't be involved with heat treating this one. Excited to see what Spyderco co...

Re: Delica 4 in 2024?

Well, I just want to thank everyone that contributed to this thread.

Imho, any real Spyderco fan knows the significance of the Delica design and I am really happy to see most of us agree and those that don't that's okay too.

Re: Does anyone have any pictures from the Spyderco booth at the 2024 Shot Show?

2024 Shot Show We stand on the shoulders of giants. I have great humility to be amongst these legends that I will never find myself equal to and it brings me joy to say it. Their humbleness and compassion to share the love for high performance designs, steels, techniques and knowledge has no equal. ...

Does anyone have any pictures from the 2024 Shot show? Especially, from the Spyderco booth/displays?

Re: Sharpmaker Elite Edition

With a possible Big Brown Bear/Spyderco collaboration on the stones? As of 2024, nobody has figured out how to get the cost down for super vitrified diamond/cBN technology. While it can be made, I don't think it would be in the price range people would like and they probably wouldn't understand wha...

The sharpmaker is 46 years old (1978) https://i.imgur.com/bBaZVNH.jpeg Model 202, a revised update over the 201. For context the current model in production is the 204. Since Sal was a sharpener first, He had a very unique perspective that really went into the design DNA of his knives and why they a...

Re: Questions about using the Sharpmaker

[ Thank you. Any thoughts on the 20 versus 40 strokes? Even if I try to just follow the instructions exactly there seems to be a contradiction between the book and the video, and that seems like a pretty big difference in the number of strokes. Don't get too fixated on the number. Just pick one and...

Re: Questions about using the Sharpmaker

I used my new Sharpmaker for the first time today and have a few questions for clarification… 1) The instruction booklet says that for each step, you should give 20 strokes on each side (alternating strokes between the right and left stones for a total of 40 strokes). However, in the video, Sal see...

Re: Delica 4 in 2024?

Thanks for the reply, Shawn, and especially for laying out your thinking. I agree for the most part. However, after playing around with Super Blue I have almost as much appreciation for the low(er) alloy carbon steels. The polished edges seem to hold up well and response brilliantly to a little str...
