My VG-10 folders have remained completely rust free, but my Yang kitchen knife rusts like crazy.
If I wash it in the sink and put it to one side without drying it, brown rust spots develop in just a few hours.

I have two FRN Delica 3s, one in ATS-55 and one in VG-10. The ATS-55 knife is hollow ground, the VG-10 is saber. I haven't noticed any difference in cutting efficiency. The flat saber ground blades on the current FRN D4's are just too fat and since the grinds don't go as near to the hole as they did...

I used 60 grit to start with - very aggressive and it shifted steel fast. I then progressed to 120 grit, then to the brown Sharpmaker stones. All of this I did at the 30 degree setting. I then sharpened the edge at forty degrees with the flats of the white stones, before stropping. I can't put an ex...

AUS-8 Rescue serrated to plain edge conversion

My very first Spyderco, an Aus-8 Rescue, had its teeth quite badly damaged at a truck fire so, as I now favour a plain edge, I decided to convert it using my (slightly modified :o ) Sharpmaker: http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/539/20030101005li4.jpg http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/114/200301010...

It would be nice if Spyderco fans could extend the same courtesy on the other forums that they frequent. When I have raised the issue on a certain British knife forum I have been told words to the extent of "Spyderco don't have an official presence here, so I can do what I want". That does...

The knife looks great, but I don't like the assist/locking mechanism. I had a 672 G-10 handled version but moved it on. I considered the assist mechanism to be an accident waiting to happen and removed the AO bar on the day that I received the knife. There is currently a thread on the BM forum where...

Thanks for the help guys. I have ordered a part-serrated Meadowlark Rescue from New Graham to have a look at.
I hope to be meeting with the "Safety Team" and if the opportunity arises I will present the Byrd for their consideration.
However, I can see that I'm going to have trouble. :(

Is there a precedent with other Brigades banning personal knives? What does the law say? What are you and others carrying while on duty? I don't see the conection to "health". Safety might be an issue depending on what people are currently carrying and doing with those knives. Is it possi...

Byrds good enough for professional use?

Are the Byrds, specifically the Meadowlark Rescue, robust enough for professional use by a Fire & Rescue Service. I ask because my Brigade is considering banning the carrying of personally owned knives on Health & Safety grounds. I have made recommendations to them that, instead of rem...

One of my Pacifics get used in the kitchen and gets cleaned with a scotchbright pad. This has caused the knife to take on a brushed stainless appearance. Looks pretty good to me.

I received a plain edge pinky today.

The quality of this knife is superb. It locks up like a vault, with zero blade play and has lovely even grinds.

I have an older Endura 3 and have resisted the new 4 until now. It feels great, and I think I prefer the newer tip design.

A real winner.

I really like the design of the Tenacious, although I'd prefer it to be a lock back. Choils and finger grooves really put me off a knife and have made me avoid many of Spyderco's designs.

If it's made well, I don't care where it's made. I will buy one.

Dark rum and ginger beer.

I mixed the two together last night as an experiment and thoroughly enjoyed the result.

I Googled today to see if anyone else was doing it, and it seems that, with the addition of a slice of lime, it is a "Dark and Stormy".

Very nice. :D
