Re: What’s your preference and what do you use it for?

Yeah, I have found it very difficult to put knives on top of each other for comparison. The camera does a weird prospective thing. Hard to see what is going on from that angle. The edge is definitely a bit longer on the Chief. if it helps, i find the best way to make these comparisons is to lay the...

Re: Question for Sal and Eric

I don't see why a Tanto has any disadvantage in slicing vs. any other blade profile, it just so happens that the edge geometry of any Tanto I have ever tried wasn't very good, but that would have been a problem if it was a drop point too. I carried a Tanto for about four years and found that drop p...

Re: What’s your preference and what do you use it for?

OK I was.wrong. The edge.of the Native Chief is a very minimal bit longer than the Endura.

Re: What’s your preference and what do you use it for?

that's just because it's behind the chief. you can see clearly that the chief is longer in the first picture. Hey, I admitted my mistake but those blades from edge to edge are not evenly lined up. And the point is when I bought the Native Chief a few years ago. And the description was 4 inch blade....

Re: Question for Sal and Eric

Tantos are not a very practical slicing knife design. The design was made for stabbing for combat knives. Maybe kinda like why we dont have "bowie" blade shaped spyderco versions My tanto slices well. Some people just don't know how to sharpen. And blame the knife instead. I bet if I shar...

Re: Spyderco Collaborators You Would Love to See Again?

I swear we did this thread a couple of months back... So many good choices in this thread! I'd like Spyderco to no longer give the cold shoulder to designers who went on to work with other manufacturers. It seems unwise to cut off one's own nose to spite their face. I would think it would be a good...

Re: Question for Sal and Eric

I don't know either. Have you tried to pick up a Para 2 in a Tanto blade on ebay? Get ready to spend $300+ I personally think the PM2 Tanto in M4 is simply badass. It looks tuff and undoubtedly is tuff. I gotta get one. I have. And Ebay sellers asking too much. Much prefer Knife Center or SMKW. Bet...

Re: Question for Sal and Eric

Serious question: What do y'all use your tantos for that a leaf, wharnie, sheepsfoot, or clip-point wouldn't do better? I will be glad to attempt to answer that. 1. Tanto tips are strong and harder to damage in case of dropping off a ladder. 2. Overlooked for drilling a small divot in wood if you w...

Re: Time for some different Byrd designs.

:respect Honestly, I really like Byrd. I’m not sure why my activity here is low compared to the Spyderco General Topic. I have lots of ideas and things to talk about regarding Byrds. I also have some designs and other ideas for the Byrd knives and brand. Sal even suggested I send in a design, which...

Question for Sal and Eric

I was just curious why Tanto offerings are limited and rarely done as of late. Are Tanto designs bad sellers or waning in popularity? Are they harder and more expensive to produce? Just wondering.

Re: Time for some different Byrd designs.

Another design I would love to see Sal and Eric do in the abuse line is a 3.25 to 3.75 inch Tanto. Come on guys and gals. Shoot some ideas along.

Time for some different Byrd designs.

I get this is the budget line and no where near as popular and trendy as the mid and upper end Spydies.. I guess what I am saying is how about some new blade designs? Even if the steel stays the same? I was thinking of a larger fully serrated 4 inch bladed hawkbill. Like a big brother to my Byrd haw...

Re: What’s your preference and what do you use it for?

Quite honestly. I only like 3 or 4 Spyderco knives. Endura is my hands down favorite. My favorite would have been the Native Chief. But the choil takes away over an inch of blade edge. Which makes the blade a bit shorter than the Endura. The edge on the Chief is just a bit longer than the Endura FW...

Little honey do list today…the Rebar and Fastback are gonna be put to the test…on a side note the clip off the Fastback is interchangeable w/the Manix lw so for $10 you get imo the most ergonomic fidgety (button lock) utility knife available and a deep carry clip👊✌️ the fastback is a very nice tool...

Re: Locks

Back Locks are king. 💪
So much stuff comes out in liner and frame lock. It is hard if not impossible for me to find knives I like.
Aside for my Otanashi frame lock. I don't give a crap about drop shut or fidget nonsense. Gimme a reliable lock that some wear out from 3 to 6 months of use.

Re: Oil Recs

Chapstick. I use it in my Endura and Carbon knife blades and scales. Phil Wilson suggested it in his Bow River YouTube video. Tends to not be runny and has kept rust at bay for me. Clings to the steel far better than oil. And yet can be wiped off easy. Also useful for dry lips :rofl As far as pivot ...
