Re: Open Construction Knife Recommendations
I know it’s a bit old hat but I got a couple serrated Tenacious’ as gifts my brothers could beat on. I was very impressed out of the box for what you got for the price. A knife like the Caribbean is obviously MUCH higher quality but it’s nice to buy in categories. And for a serrated tool to thrash o...

Re: In Loving Memory - Jurphaas van Rietschoten
Very sad to hear. I never met him but his loss will be felt by the community. Luckily his contributions will remain in the legend and lore of the company forever.

Re: Has any knife made you stop buying knives?
For me life changes stopped (or slowed) the Spydie and knife collecting in general. I still do not not as fervently as years ago. Literally any one of my Spydies could have been my last. Most are nearly perfect and still factory sharp. Good thing logic doesn’t always need to come into play with a ho...

Re: On the fence
The Dragonfly is the Lotus Elise of the LBK line. Probably smallest/lightest knife I can get a serious grip on. It actually carries decently well inside the waistband.
The Chap is more sophisticated. In my weird metaphor it’s a Lotus Extige. An excellent design but less bare-bones.

Re: Chris Reeve Knives
I wish they didn’t discontinue the Ti-Lock. I bought one mostly because of the weird factor and it being less loved by the purists. I rarely carry it but I’m always impressed when I do.

Re: Endela or Straight Spine Stretch?
For me the answer is always Stretch. I don’t think it will ever be as commercial as some other models but every variant of it makes me happy :) .

Re: I don't think the Stretch 2 is boring.
Our hands are fairly sensitive to non-boring things. The more “exciting” a tool the more uncomfortable it often is for work or the more specialized it becomes. If I could only keep one knife or would probably be my Stretch 2 ZDP Southard regrind. Thank goodness that is a silly scenario. I like all t...

Re: A perspective on a fad in the knife world.
There are a lot of fads but so long as those don’t distract from design or force a grip I’m fine with them. It’s been like a decade, not sure if he’s making YouTube vids, but Nutnfancy impacted way too many designs. Luckily if anything he pushed up MSRP but the quality makers met his followers half ...

Thanks for sharing Sal! Yea I can imagine you and Lynn being professional yet not matching in persona. Glad you could spend less time in court and more time doing literally anything else, lol.

Re: A perspective on a fad in the knife world.
I don’t mind thin geometry. I have plenty of regrinds. You just use them differently. Most Spyderco’s are performance designed for most people. That means factoring a steeper secondary bevel that most of us will slowly or quickly reset. Before the FFG movement there were some scary sharp hollow grin...

Re: Mini-Spydercos - Perfect Application
I think the Dfly hawkbill is the perfect little knife. It disappears and you forget you have it, then it cuts like a Manix2 when you need it.

Re: Spyderco Throwing Knives?
I had a set of Hibbon throwers way back when. I snapped the tip off one fairly early on and those were like 420 stainless. The Spydies are 8Cr13Mov so will actually hold an edge. I expect like an extreme version of cardboard cutting if you can control the medium they impact you can minimize breakage...

Re: What happened to the Ken Onion Designed Spyker
I suspect that the "bad blood" may stem from Sal not liking being used for a stepping stone. Ken Onion was already associated with Kershaw, so the Spyker was a Kershaw/Spyderco collaboration rather than a Ken Onion/Spyderco collaboration, which is a pretty rare thing. Most collabs are sho...

Re: Serrated Sprint Runs Wanted? Let's Get Serious
Lil Temp 1.0, rhino blade, teeth. Sprint. Let’s get weird :) I previously owned one fully Serrated, Leaf Blade version of the original Lil Temperance model. For the time I owned it and and two to three times I used it I was amazed at how much of a beast it was for no bigger than it was. My favorite...

Re: What happened to the Ken Onion Designed Spyker
With a few models going away due to manufacturer restrains most just run a general course of time. I expect a large batch is made or subsequent batches are slow to be needed so they just wind down the model for another project. I can’t believe many makers have bad blood with Spyderco. Some of the de...

Re: Schempp Kukri?
Or maybe just a bit of length? If the Rock grew a bit it likely would likely get the length and arc of a traditional Nepalese Kukri while remaining very “Ed” (which I love about the original). That would also push the center of gravity into more of a chopping tool and less of a knife. Maybe even jus...
