I have found that most organic 'crud' is readily dissolved by lighter fluid and brushing. Lighter fluid will also de-grease the pivot bearing and flush out any particulate matter. I usually follow this up with a good wash in hot soapy (dish detergent) water and a rinse under hot water, all the while...

The steels that have stood out for me are -

VG-10
S30V
N690Co
BG-42 and
ZDP-189

Of course, I own many other types, but the above are what I use the most. They all take an excellent edge and keep it long enough for me.

There isn't really anything wrong with S35VN other than it's still new so not all the information on what's best as far as the HT and tempering goes is set yet. In time that will change possibly. And that about sums it up. A questionable review is not all bad. It got me to order a Native 5, just to...

I don't think the concern is about getting one into Canada. It is about the legality of carry in Canada. Hmmm...that is not a problem in Canada as there is absolutely no length restriction for carry, as long as it is visible. As for 'flick' knives, I have yet to hear of anyone get into trouble for ...

It is said by some in the dental field with experience that rather than having a root canal done, which basically kills the nerves in your tooth (meaning now a dead tooth) it is better to have the tooth removed, I had 18 root canals, and spent many years in pain due to a family history of bad teeth...

There is nothing wrong with the Cold Steel knife mentioned, as they are very tough. However, you are much better off with a VG-10 steel, as it resists corrosion a bit better and holds the edge longer. I think either the Salt or the Delica are a good fit for you.

I went with G10. It doesn't matter if it is smooth like on my Vallotton, or textured such as found on a Military, I like them both.

I would wash the knife in hot soapy water while opening and closing the action. Rinse in hot clean water, shake dry and finish off with a hair-dryer. Re-lube with your preferred lube and away you go.

Congrats on your new knife, Jaxx. That is one fine introduction to Spyderco!

And congrats to everyone that managed to snag an M390 Military. I guess that I will have to wait until they become regular production. ;)
