Probably because of the liner lock, makes it easier to manufacture and allows for more wear before things start to get loose. The only thin-bladed knives I'm aware of from Spyderco are back locks ...zhyla wrote: The blade is thicker and stouter than you'd expect in a small "gents" knife.

It's got a choil and a thick blade. Even if everything else is amazing, that's still two strikes ... I suspect that I'm out.

Re: Will Spyderco ever make a Chisel Point Tanto?
I personally wont hold my breath, but if they did decide to make their own chisel ground tanto blade I hope that they would at least face the chisel grind the correct way. Agreed, a chisel grind for right-handed people would be a nice change, but I don't think he's talking about a chisel grind as h...

Re: I'm going over to Buck
... I'd take a Cara Cara over a 110 myself... No argument. The 110 is dated. It was pretty hot stuff back in the 70s, though. I was just pointing out that some of the disadvantages suggested for the 110 had little merit. If it was my only knife, I could be happy. I'm also happy it's not my only kni...

Re: I'm going over to Buck
I'm going to disagree a bit about the belt sheath for the 110. I really like it. It keeps a big knife out of my pocket and in a place where it's easy to get at. So long as my hands are warm(I have Raynauds) opening it one-handed is easy. Closing it one-handed is easy enough but a little less safe. S...

Re: Cardboard cutting; Steel vs. Geometry
I'd love to see the advantages of super steels used to optimize geometry instead of showing up in the same geometry as knives that are acceptably user-proof in VG-10 or S30V ... I'm thinking that you could often reduce blade thickness by half. Now we'd be cooking with gas.

Re: Spyderco bevel angles VS the Sharpmaker
I've seen this a number of times. At this point I just reprofile everything I get to 10dps and put a microbevel on it. What really annoys me are the knives I expect to be thin behind the edge(Nilakka, I'm lookin' at you) that aren't. That really adds to the reprofiling work and the knife never reall...

Re: EDC: Every Day Carry. What does it mean to you?
A light-weight medium-sized letter opener, pencil sharpener, and splinter picker is ideal so long as it can cut zip-ties or people-proof plastic packages and break down boxes. If I have chores to do that it won't handle gracefully, I carry an additional knife. In the yard, I supplement with a medium...

Re: Choils on Spyderco Knives: Ups and Downs?
I feel like we're sort of agreeing but not fully understanding each other. I'll try for some clarification ... If lock failure results in you getting cut, that's your fault? I don't really see it that way. (although I suppose if you own a knife capable of biting your fingers when it accidentally clo...

Re: Choils on Spyderco Knives: Ups and Downs?
The safety issue we are referring to is not inexperienced knife users closing the knife and nicking their finger. We are talking the lock failing during use and the blade closing on your index finger and possibly guillotining your finger off. Gotcha. If lock failure results in you getting cut, you'...

Re: Hundred Pacer - my most anticipated of 2017
Interesting choice of name. I've paced runners in hundos, and the last thing I need is extra weight or extra bulk. In an event like Leadville, where muling is not only allowed, but encouraged, you've got your own gear plus your runner's gear, running through the night above 10,000 feet where rain an...

Re: Choils on Spyderco Knives: Ups and Downs?
I've gotten rid of all my knives with choils, save the Perrin Bowie. That one works for me. I've only got one left with a 50/50 choil, the Super Blue Stretch, and I've been planning to get rid of that. I've been using folding knives for 50 years and have never, ever nicked myself closing one, so I d...

If it stays slim in FRN, I'm going to pass. I've already got(and love) the Centofante 3 and 4, and I buy my knives to use. I've also got plenty of other thin-handled knives. A thick, hand-filling handle? You've got my attention. And my money.

Re: Re: Name a Spyderco knife you thought you would like but didn't once you owned it.
FRN Stretch, I just can't get comfy on the handle. Bumps and lumps and choils are OK if they fit your hand. If they don't, they can ruin a decent knife. Assist II, I love the handle as the bumps and lumps fit me just fine, I love the cobra hood, but I could never warm up to the combo blade. Mules. T...

Re: Lil Nilakka...
I've got the Nilakka with the "micro" bevel. Mine was really thick behind the edge. I reprofiled it to 10dps with an actual micro bevel of 15dps and now it has quite a wide primary bevel. Talk about a huge disappointment. I like everything else about the knife. I wish they'd ground it like...
