Re: Which runs of the Military have the stiffest detents?

You seem to have it figured out, but just to answer your question, I'd say my 2nds Ti framelock, 204P, & D-2 are the stiffest, in about that order, and the others are about the same as my 52100, but I've never had an accidental opening. (I'm a lefty, so the blade fits securely against the back o...

Re: Knife lubricant

I've been using mineral oil for several years but am trying KPL & KPL Heavy recently. Anybody know any rationale for using KPL, pros or cons, etc? I thought it might work with a little less friction than mineral oil, just guessing, very difficult to tell. (I tried the Heavy on a ball bearing loc...

Re: Compression lock Manix

The first Manix had a backlock so I guess all the CBBLs are named wrong  :D preach! :D https://i.postimg.cc/fTMt31Zw/fg3q7mb8yan61.jpg Nice pair! I'm glad you showed them together, which gives me some perspective on the size of the Chief, which I've never seen in person. Also, I've never seen ...

Re: Compression lock Manix

Well one thing the CBBL and backlock versions have in common is the nice solid platform for your thumb, though some of us like to grind down the liner jimping for an even nicer feel on the G-10 models. And that could be compromised by a compression lock, maybe depending on the design. It's amazing h...

I joined to say the following: Please bring the Caly 3 back into regular production. Ideally in a premium steel.

It's the best knife you've ever made, and the world needs more.
I would like to second this request and humbly ask for a K390 model :spyder:

Re: Compression lock Manix

The first Manix had a backlock so I guess all the CBBLs are named wrong  :D I never said it was wrong. Learn how to read. I agree that the CBBL has been on so many Manix models for so long that it's almost synonymous with "Manix" and it would be a change in the whole character of the...

Re: Compression lock Manix

I like all the Spyderco locks except the ones that aren't easily one-hand closable with the left hand, in my experience, Domino, Dice, early Mantras, Gayle Bradley and a couple of others. (Generally, liner locks and frame locks can be depressed with the left index or middle finger tip, then the kick...

Re: What's your favorite large Spyderco folder?

I voted Millie but I almost chose Other for the Super Leaf . I have a serious need for a Shaman. Waiting on a steel that’s not S30V and color that’s not black. Glad to see a little Super Leaf love. It's definitely not to be sneezed at: 4mm blade, compression lock, wire clip, comfortable hand grip, ...

Re: What's your favorite large Spyderco folder?

A very tough decision. I really like the Police 4 and Manix XL, but since you are going to use it for mail at the office, and I presume you don't want your co-workers to gasp and shrink back against the wall, I voted for the Military. Truth be told, in recent months I've carried my K390 Endura more...

Re: Manix LW pins removed

If you have a lightweight Manix scale swap you want to make before they come out with screws or your doting grandmother buys you a 3D printer :D , member illacky worked out a way to do it without destroying the scales awhile back (I haven't tried it yet but may at some point): https://forum.spyderc...

Re: How do you count ‘em up?

It started with simple list in MS word; would have been better as Excel spread sheet. :o But the list is now too big and I’m to lazy to change it. Besides; :( my collecting days are done. I just record the model number, name, note on any variation, blade steel, blade length and place of ...

Re: How do you count ‘em up?

It makes me tired trying to think of all I have, some here, some back home. Maybe I should sell them all and buy something like a house! You might want to give that some serious thought. (A friend of mine literally sold his car tag collection and bought a house. He had all counties for recent years...

Re: How do you count ‘em up?

This brings up a question I've been meaning to ask for a long time, which I think would fit OK in this thread, if you don't mind me butting in. Does anybody use a spreadsheet in which you can list all your knives with different columns for seller, price, date of purchase, blade steel, country of ori...

Re: Why did you join?

Since I did an accidental double post, I may as well add that some of the oldest and most respected members quickly helped me with the problem, although, IIRC I had made a disparaging comment about the problem at the time, on my very first post :o I haven't been around much during this past year but...

Re: Why did you join?

I joined 8 years ago to inquire about carbon fiber grit in my (then) new Caly 3.5 pivot, my third Spyderco. That was over 100 spydies back, so the forum must have made a pretty good impression on me ;)

Re: The Endela is fantastic.

.... This picture is making it much harder for me to wait for the K390 SS Stretch to drop :) I was drawn to the white SSS but stubbornly waited for the K390 steel, and in the meantime, I've carried the Endela so much the FRN has grown on me more. I think I may wind up favoring the slightly bigger S...
