Hi embry ! Could you let the judge know what knife you posted? Makes it easier for whoever judges . No harm or foul , we just do it to help the process . Thank you much ! Beautiful picture ! MG2
Sure thing, it's an Amalgam! I'll edit the original post.

And thanks! :bug-white-red

Re: oH tHe TiP iS ToO FrAGilE

I like those pictures, Michal -- thank you for sharing them! It's always interesting and useful to see how different models compare to each other. My favorite knives used to be the splinter-picker type, but turns out the broader ones are more useful to me, because the most common task I do with my E...

Re: Clipit rescue ATS-55 value

I bought an ATS-55 Rescue new in box for around $60 at one point, and then a second one for over $100 (I think, it's been a while). They didn't have the orange handles though, just plain black. But yeah if they're in good condition they should be worth at least that much, to the right buyer. https:/...

Re: Could you EDC only a Ladybug or Manbug?

My workplace recently implemented a "tiny knives only" rule. I had to buy a Dragonfly because none of my then-current knives were small enough. It's definitely confirmed how much I dislike using tools too small for the job. Makes things so much harder than they need to be, and I'm constant...

If you have a hard time feeling a burr with your fingertip, try running your teeth lightly over the blade instead. Much easier to feel.

Re: Any love for the Amalgan?

The Amalgam has kicked all my other knives out of my pocket. Big, light, flicky, super ergonomic, a design that works for everything from slicing boxes to food prep to hacking through old baseboards. No issues with the bearings or detent, even with hard use (re: baseboards). I had the opportunity re...

Re: Purpose of a Business?

The purpose of a business varies, depending on the purpose of the person/people who started/own it: If I quit my job in IT and start a business fixing computers, my purpose is to earn money in a way that's easier and more fun than working at the 9-to-5 job. If I invent a super cool thing and start a...

Re: My thumb keeps slipping from the hole on my new spyderco

Ah, I had exactly this problem with the Spyderco Brouwer when I got it. Was kind of embarrassing too, because it happened in the middle of the knife store after I bought the thing. I think this problem happens with knives that have strong detents and then super easy action? At least that's what happ...

Might be able to use RIT dye after the sandpaper to get the color to all match again.

Re: Past Spyderco Collaborators You Would Like To See Again?

Brian Lai did my favorite EDC, so I've gotta say him -- that Amalgam is entirely awesome :) Maybe this time something with a sheepsfoot profile, because sheepsfoot blades are neat and handy.

Amalgam, sheepsfoot edition with only a very slight belly (like the Smock or the Kershaw Leek), with a DLC blade and gray G10 scales. Make it in both serrated and non-serrated plz The Amalgam in its current configuration is awesome for lots of things, but dang, every time I open a box with it I wish...

Re: Spydercos you're gifting this holiday season

Blacked-out serrated Pacific Salt 2. Originally bought it for a blade swap, but decided I wasn't as big a fan of the serrated wharncliffe Endura as I thought I'd be, and therefore didn't want to go to the effort of performing the swap to create an uber-lightweight serrated wharncliffe Endura. I'd al...

Re: Tell us about your Spyderco Knife of the Year 2020

Amalgam. I almost didn't buy it, was more interested in the Brouwer and ended up buying the Amalgam because it was a similar shape to the Brouwer and I figured it'd be cool to have a "matching set" of similar knives in different sizes. Ended up disliking the Brouwer enough that I gave it t...

Re: POLL: More Atlantic Salt versions (leafshape, drop point...) based on its already existing, very "pm2-ish" handle?

I love this handle and would be very interested in any alternate bladeshapes that utilize it. It's very similar to the handle of my '98 Rescue, aside from the shackle key, and the '98 Rescue is the ergonomically best of all the Spydercos I've had a chance to check out. I'd be happiest to see it in a...

Re: Just for fun. What configuration?

Lightweight serrated sheepsfoot Amalgam with thinner bladestock, no liners, gray FRN, and DLC coating. I'd take it in a plainedge version as well.
