Re: Do we really need a finger choil ?

Do I "need" a finger choil, no. Do I have an extremely strong preference for them, yes. To the point where, aside from the Jester on my key ring, I've almost never carried a folding knife without one for the past 19 years. Native, Kiwi, Kiwi 2, Calypso Jr., R, Schempp Persian, Stretch, Man...

Re: Is this normal spyderhole finish? [Seki city quality]

Well, here's a shot of the Spyderhole on one of my Taichung knives, a CF Sage 3 to be exact. Might be a trifle better, but I'm hard pressed to see any significant difference in smoothness between it and the OP's Seki specimen. However, as with most things in life, YMMV.

I'd say the inside of the Spyderhole on your knife looks perfectly normal to me.

Re: Autonomy 2 Photo Request

Thanks Paul. Looks like it'll be a little smaller than I prefer, but big enough to work. DSC_0002.JPG Saw your thread on the Stretch XL Salt, thought maybe a comparison shot with a Stretch XL might be in order. Personally, aside from the possible "cool factor" of an auto and the added rus...

Re: Would you buy a Stretch XL Salt?

Not really a fan of the XL, but if it was done in LC200N I'd probably buy one. In H-1, probably not.

Re: Autonomy 2 Photo Request

How about an Autonomy 2 with a very abused Tenacious and an Endura? DSC_0002.JPG It's a very well made knife, whether it's for you or not is something only you can determine. Very unlikely to open accidentally and, if you're the least worried about that, it even has a safety you can use to lock it c...

Re: Unusual box of a Byrd - Is it Fake?

Most likely it's just a change Spyderco made. The boxes for Spyderco knives have had that symbol in those three places (name, logo, and swoop) for quite some time, so it probably was done for uniformity.

Re: Talk me into/out of modding my Police

Guess my three reservations would be: The difficulty of keeping metal chips out of the pivot. The difficulty of grinding/cutting away that portion of the handle without marring the blade. The question of whether the greater exposure of the front end of the locking notch when the knife is closed migh...

I was remembering light years past and thought this expose should be brought forward to current time to be shared.

Good to see you Ed! Funny thing, I was wearing one of your t-shirts yesterday morning.

Re: Twilight Zone or Outer Limits?

Like them both, JD. But, if I had to pick a favorite between them it would the Twilight Zone. Another good one, and probably the one that started the genre, was Inner Sanctum. Only lasted one season, probably because it was ahead of its time when it aired in '54.

Re: Would you buy Spyderco branded torx hand tools?

It depends on the layout. I'm kinda picky about how the tools are packaged I guess you'd say. One reason I like my little Kobalt set is because all the bits are double ended and carry inside the handle, it makes for a very compact and convenient kit and I keep one in my sling bag. By comparison I h...

Re: UpTern!!

The UpTern was one of only two things in the latest Reveal that caught my eye. To me, it gives off a decidedly all stainless Calypso Jr. vibe, and the lack of a Boye dent really sealed the deal.

Re: "As close to perfection as possible" folder from Spyderco?

Much as I love a number of Spyderco models, there's not a single one of my favorites that could not be improved in some way. They are all midlocks, and they all have at least one of these three things I would change. Most have their lockbars defiled by a Boye dent. Most have their handles defiled by...

C83 Schempp Persian, bolstered like the original, with a full flat ground plain edged Odin's Eye Damasteel blade with a 14mm Spyderhole, a matching Odin's Eye lockbar with no Boye dent, mammoth ivory scales with mosaic pins, and no provision for a pocket clip. Alternately, a straight spined Stretch ...

Re: Bring back the J.D. Smith?

When I first saw the J D Smith almost 20 years ago, my first thought was "it's a great looking knife", my second was "it's Spyderco's answer to the Buck 110". Doubt Spyderco would put it back in regular produciton, but I'd love to see another Sprint in any decently stainless stee...

Been reading about it this past week. Glad she saved the state some money, sorry he didn't do the same. But, truth be told, I've been more intrigued by what's being found in Lake Mead. :eye-roll

I'll take any version of the Stretch over any midlock model that lacks a usable finger choil.
