Re: High Performance Delica Excitement

I'm curious if it is still progressing forward or in a holding pattern. Also, I would be curious if the blade is still planning on being thinned out with the hollow grind or just adding a hollow to the current Delica blade. As mentioned before, still available: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderc...

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement

Even more s30v options would be cool While I certainly don't begrudge S30V folk their love of that steel, it's really not suited to a high hollow grind geometry like the knife under discussion in this thread is rumored to be sporting, or any edge that has bevels much below 30 dps for that matter. T...

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement

The older Delica grind was referred to as a "saber" grind (despite being hollow ground bevels, rather than flat), it sounds like this will have a significantly higher hollow grind than that ...especially since the saber grind is still available. The added interest is in how that higher gri...

Still really excited to see what the final product looks like (and to use it).

Re: CPM Cruwear chipping?

I don't get this automatic default to "burnt edges" . We know the sharpening is done in a way that prevents it. I'd really like to see some proof that Spyderco has burnt edges. Sure I know in theory it can be possible with some sharpening jobs somewhere. I've seen it on one new knife in m...

Re: CPM Cruwear chipping?

That sort of damage is not something I've experienced and I have multiple CruWear blades from Spyderco, several of which have been regularly used for far more demanding cutting chores than tape and cardboard. Even ones that have been reprofiled to 15dps haven't shown any chipping, let alone that muc...

Re: Who needs a lanyard hole?

Like others, I never use lanyard holes on folding knives, but don't mind if a knife has one, as long as it's in a spot that doesn't compromise clip placement. The only knives I use a lanyard on are a beefy fixed blade that occasionally gets used for camp type wood processing and a short heavy bladed...

Re: "sharpener's steels"

I find it interesting that VG-10 has been listed in this thread a couple times, but I have been getting the totally opposite vibe from some kitchen knife enthusiasts. I was actually surprised to hear opinions describing VG-10 on Japanese kitchen knives as chip prone, gummy on stones, and more diffi...

Re: Why are seki city spydercos so different?

Many years back, when Cold Steel used to have their knives made in Japan, the Zytel/FRN, the back locks, the integral Zytel/FRN pocket clips, and the blades of their early Voyager folders (which were AUS-8, like several of Spyderco's blades were in the '90s) were of a similar build quality to Spyde...

Re: Zome + Super Blue Sprint!

The edges of the cut in the design are quite crisp, so this will be more of a pocket grater than any peel-ply composite.

Very good looking in person though!

The scales I got are from an Etsy seller and look to be the Flytanium scales with a deep laser etched pattern applied:

Re: Zome + Super Blue Sprint!

My Delica arrived last week and the Ti scales and deep carry clip should be here in the next few days. Once those goodies are installed (or rather the blade and liners are installed in the goodies) it will get a sub-15DPS re-profile and go into rotation. Objectively, I expect the cutting performance...

Re: Loctite vs Not?

Blue Loctite (the stick is better than fluid IMO) is an easy solution to wandering pivot tension and cheap insurance for other screws on any screw-together knife. Blue is also unlikely to ever cause disassembly issues, unlike red. Linerless FRN is the exception, as a spun pivot or clip screw is a re...

Re: Zome + Super Blue Sprint!

I just ordered one of those blue zone Dragonfly’s in that super blue laminated steel to try out. I hope I like it better than the VG10 version that I currently own. Well, it's still a Dragonfly... which IMO is its most important feature. If you aren't a fan of the design, then an exotic steel won't...

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2023 Report

I'll take S30V with choil and spine serration over smooth BD1N, though it will likely be more expensive in S30V...

Another thought is that more than a few past prototypes have been made in S30V, despite their final production version being a different steel.

Re: Zome + Super Blue Sprint!

Moki uses clad ZDP, so why wouldn't they use clad SB? Despite owning a CF/ZDP Caly 3 the fact that it's a laminated Hitachi steel had escaped me as I wrote that post... I think maybe it was that Sakai wouldn't work in homogenous SB, only laminate and Moki just happened to have made all of their SB ...
