Re: XL Chaparral

Make a Sage 5 with the blade ground down to 2mm. Leave it thick at the pivot. It's a knife that can already be made at economies of scale, and it's the handle and blade shape that led to the Chaparral in the first place. If it sells, then maybe get serious about doing all the new tooling for a Chap ...

Re: XL Chaparral

Well, the lockup is actually perhaps the best on any Spyderco backlock?? Extremely solid, no blade play at all? I've heard so many good thins about this configuration of the backlock, I'm surprised we haven't seen it in other models. The thing (for me) is that the moving stop pin mechanism has a lo...

Re: 3d Printed Leading Edge Guided Sharpener Compatible with Sharp-Maker Stones

This is awesome, and I will definitely be making this. But I would echo the advice upthread, and say start with some really simple things.

I think that Smock is the first knife I've liked better in BHQ's "Jade" G10.

Re: Question about Micarta and blade play

I can't imagine that a stack consisting of stainless steel screwed to micarta is markedly less rigid than a stack consisting of stainless steel screwed to G10 or carbon fiber.

Oh, I see. It's just a tanto-ish shape, not a tanto grind.

Re: We need more reverse tanto blades

I don't understand how one could reverse a tanto blade. If the tip is angled the other way, the two facets of the grind won't meet.

Re: Mystery DLT Exclusive

It's interesting to see a retailer taking this kind of chance. Para 2s and 3s are pretty much a mortal lock to sell out, so you hardly even see Millies anymore. The recent Bowie exclusive is a bit unusual, but again, there was never much doubt of the model's popularity. The Tuff, though, is definite...

I was going to buy one but they had the nerve to charge extra for shipping, so i cancelled it.

Re: New CPM Stainless Steel??

This looks like the most well rounded steel so far. Very exciting! Is it possible to apply this concept to create a more wear resistant steel as well? Can you increase the vanadium and/or niobium while still avoiding chromium carbides? Just curious if this concept can be expanded on? Heck yeah!! Th...

Re: Oh no, what's this on my new Urban backspring?

You can do some decorative filework on it! I put some sine wavey decorations into the spine of my old Urban before I gave it to my brother.

Or you could learn to ignore it.

That's a big loss to the knife afi community. Cliff was brusque sometimes, but man could he drop science. And did, here and elsewhere, with terrific generosity.

Re: The odd thing about knife steel nerds

I think you can probably count the purpose-built knife steels on the market without needing both hands. So the fact that knife steel nerds are not fully satisfied with their options to date hardly seems outrageous to me. Personally, Magna Cut seems like it's very, very close to the best compromise p...

Re: SMKW Spyderco Exclusive?

I don't really see how they could advertise Winter Is Coming and then cheap out by failing to use Valyrian steel. Or maybe dragonglass. That would be a dealbreaker for me, actually. I know it's great against walkers, but I can't even tell you how many times I've chipped an edge cutting zip ties with...
