Re: Would you really want LC200N in a non-Salt knife?
I would. Lc200n is a great all rounder steel without any downsides, aside from maybe price. The problem is that people focus so much on a single attribute (corrosion resistance) that they ignore the other good things about the steel. Much like how some people react to the idea of tough tool steels l...

Re: Different edge angles?
I do a 12-15dps backbevel and an 18dps microbevel with 200/400/800/1500g diamond plates followed by 6/3/1.5 micron diamond lapping films. After that, I finish with 4/2/1/0.5 micron emulsions on nanocloth strops at 17.5dps. I get some nasty chipping in most of my steels when I go lower for work. Even...

Re: Police versus military?
Manix XL gets my vote. Extremely comfortable handle and strong closed bias while still being easy to thumb flick open. It is a pocket hog, but I always keep a pocket dedicated to carrying my knife. I don’t use pocket clips, so reaching past the knife isn’t something I’ve had to deal with.

Re: Wicked Edge WE 50 / Go Sharpening system
I don't have the Go, but I did have the Field and Sport before getting the upgrade kit to the F&S pro, followed by the 2017 Gen III Pro full setup with 50-1500g diamonds, 6/3/1.5 micron lapping films, and 1/0.5micron diamond emulsions on nanocloth strops. The 200g diamonds are good enough for pr...

Re: Location
Thanks Sal. For the next few years I'm working and saving up to pay for collage straight through. A career in Spyderco's R&D department is my goal, though I'll probably try to get into Spyderco's production in golden first. I blame you for my fascination with steels by the way, Sal! :D

New Mexico, USA. I'll probably move to Golden Colorado sometime in the next decade for the Colorado School of Mines (and Spyderco of course!). Metallurgy and knife steels are definite passions of mine.

The native salt. At least it seems discontinued, what with how long it’s taking to release.

Swap a portion of the carbon for nitrogen.

Re: Buying my second Spyderco.
Manix xl, sliverax, or Caribbean leaf would be my recommendations. I do mostly push cuts and s110v isn’t a steel I’ve particularly enjoyed using. S30v, xhp, and lc200n are much better steels for most tasks I think. S110v is pretty much specialized in slicing abrasive materials.

I’d buy one in hap40 or zdp189 if it looks like that sketch. I hate the look of the normal endura but love the looks of a good wharnie.

Re: manix v. paramilitary
I’m firmly in the manix camp. I find the pm2 (and the pm3, military, endura, and standard delica) too hideous to buy. I prefer more symmetrical leaf blades and spear points. I love my warnie hap40 delica though. The blurple manix has been getting plenty of use since I got it. I prefer the cbbl over ...

Re: Official Sliverax Discussion Thread
I had to drop the tip a couple millimeters to more of a sheepsfoot (by grinding the spine) on my sliverax because it cut me a couple times while closed. Apparently my ring finger is perfectly sized and shaped to snag the tip when the blade is closed. After dropping the tip this is easily my favorite...

Get the cbn or diamond rods for the sharpmaker. S110v can take forever to sharpen without them if you ding the edge.

Re: Caribbean: Hottest Spyderco Available!
I've found my Caribbean is very susceptible to pinching pressure. If I'm careful not to put any pressure on the sides it swings freely while holding the lock open. Even a little pressure and it won't swing freely. Ah, that’s probably what’s happening with mine. I always keep an extra firm grip on m...

Re: Caribbean: Hottest Spyderco Available!
The detent and lock on mine is so strong it can’t be wrist flicked open or closed while depressing the lock, even after months of break in time. I like it that way though. No chance of it opening in my pocket at work.
