Re: Spyderwrench owners club

Here is my SpydeRench. It has a pocket clip. It also came with a belt pouch. http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/yy288/jackknifeh/SpydeRench/SpydeRench%201%20clip%20side_zpsv88z9pz6.jpg Knife blade open. This multi-tool has IMO the strongest knife blade pivot when compared to the other multi-tools I'...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

Finally, here is the finished first sheath. It works perfectly. But, there are a couple of things I don't like and can do differently on the next one. I mean now that I'm an expert. The eyelets are way too far away from the edge of the knife so the sheath is wider than necessary. http://i...

Re: Sharp Edges on Spyder Hole

I've seen sharp edges on the inside of some liners also. As mentioned any very fine grit tool will take the uncomfortable sharpness off without ruining a really good grip. This sharpness in a hole I think might be worse than the liners because when opening the blade the inside of a hole slides (slic...

Re: What lube do you prefer for smoothness?

Plain old non toxic mineral oil... That's one thing I've been wanting to try. What seems to happen to me a lot is I'll get experimental about lubes and other things. Strops for another example. I've used different stropping materials like balsa wood, felt, cow, horse and kangaroo leather, etc. Lots...

Re: My first kydex sheath

I'm pretty sure I'll be getting an eyelet punch for 3/16" eyelets. I have the 1/4" one now. I have always though kydex sheaths are bigger than needed because of the eyelets. Also, I have a normal rivet tool for the rivets used in sheet metal and stuff like that. I'll probably try that also...

Re: My first kydex sheath

Nice work Jack :) Looking forward to see how you get on with your Mule sheath :) Here is the first sheath so far. The eyelets look terrible so I'll be making another one after I get the hang of using the eyelet punch. Then I'll smooth the edges and see how it looks. Also, the eyelets that would be ...

Re: What lube do you prefer for smoothness?

For pocket knives I've used several different oils over the years and all do well except one. Tuf-Glide I think is sold as a corrosion prevention product as well as a lubricant. It does well at preventing corrosion IMO but when it comes to lubrication I think it's horrible. Other than that I think a...

Re: Why Broad Blades?

One benefit of a wider blade (edge to spine) is you have much more steel to sharpen away before you have a folding toothpick. I wouldn't select a knife based on this though. If for some reason the wider blade makes it a poor tool for the job I'd want a different knife. But, we've all seen the knives...

My first kydex sheath

Decided to try my hand at making a kydex sheath for my first mule. Still working on that but in the meantime I made one for my Stretch. My stretch is a super blue blade and carbon fiber handle. I got the handle from a very generous forum member who had broken the blade on his CF stretch. He gave me ...

Oops! I hit the quote button instead of the edit button when adding the "PS" at the bottom. That created two posts. Sorry. The kydex sheath making stuff came in the mail yesterday. What I bought was: 1. Kydex sheath kit. It came with a sq. ft. of kydex, 10 rivets, one belt loop and a ball...

The kydex sheath making stuff came in the mail yesterday. What I bought was: 1. Kydex sheath kit. It came with a sq. ft. of kydex, 10 rivets, one belt loop and a ball chain. 2. Foam. Bought one piece and cut it in half. 3. Rivet hand setter. Using this you set the rivets using a hammer by hand. I wa...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

Well dang. A bit of the wood chipped off the top/front of the handle at the thumb ramp. You can see it partially in the picture in the post above. Here are pics of how it is now. If I do flatten the ramp some this will make it easier though. I'll make the other side look like this side. Maybe I shou...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

Here is a picture comparing the mule size to a Carter neck knife. I'm going to make a neck sheath for the mule and it will replace the Carter as a work knife. The larger handle of the mule will be a change. One thing I won't know until i use the mule is the thumb ramp may need to be flattened some. ...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

Wow, in the pic above the new bevel is so consistent I thought you must have used some kind of guide even though I knew you do most sharpening freehand. My reprofiling attempts so far have worked out well, but they do not look pretty lol. Dad taught me to sharpen a knife when I was 10-12. I used th...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

Thanks for continuing to update Jack. I have been short on free time for projects lately, but am interested in eventually making my own scales and sheath for at least one of my Mules. This thread is a good inspiration/motivator. My B70P has only seen a bunch of cardboard and food prep, but I am als...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

I've decided to get a couple of the basic tools to make my own kydex sheath. Everything should cost about $40 after shipping. But the tools I can use over and over and just buy the material so I can make random sheaths as I need them. Supposedly I can make my own press out of plywood.

Re: Kydex knife sheaths. Who makes them?

Thanks. However I just decided to get some kydex and a couple of tools to make my own. I've wanted to do that for a while but haven't because of the initial cost. I just talked to a guy at knifekits.com and I can get some kydex and the basic tools for under $35 before shipping. I think I'll do that....

I'm needing a kydex sheath made for my mule. Does anyone have recommendations on who to contact? Thanks.

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

Here is a blurp from Carpenter's site about B70P. ======== A powder metallurgy derivative of Carpenter’s CRB-7 alloy offering enhanced wear resistance and hardness capability and similar corrosion resistance compared with Type 440C stainless steel. Carpenter CTS B70P alloy is a high-chromium, air-ha...
