Re: “Worst case you can sharpen it on a rock or coffee mug”

H1 also sharpens really nicely with a file, something many common steels won't handle very well.

Re: H-2 vs. H-1

I highly doubt that H1 will ever have much if any collector value. Knives made of H1 have been made for nearly two decades now, and there’s LOTS of them out there. For the most part, knives are not a great investment, if one is planning on becoming financially secure by selling them off in the futu...

Re: H-2 vs. H-1

This is an interesting development, in a really great edition of the Byte. It took more than a decade for H1 to get its due wrt to edge retention so there’s not many reports I’ll be paying attention to for H2. As a heavy H1 user since 2004 I’m sad to see it go but hopeful for its successor. ZDP189, ...

Re: "As close to perfection as possible" folder from Spyderco?

I think the original C95 Manix was as close to perfect as any knife will ever be, for myself.

Re: Packing Tape vs Blade

I rub the blade with mineral oil. It works ok on uncoated blades but is really effective on DLC coated blades. A nice coat of mineral oil on DLC and nothing sticks.

Re: Bring back the J.D. Smith?

The JD Smith sprint was another of the "lost generation" of Foliage Green knives that were immensely disliked and did not appear to be robust sellers. It definitely deserves another look. I liked both prior versions of the JD Smith. The original Micarta was a nice dress knife option while ...

Re: Blade HQ Jade/M4 Dodo SE coming

How are these still available? Didn’t the BHQ PE M4 Dodo sell out in like 15 minutes? Website was pretty screwed up at the time but it was OOS 6-7 minutes after it went live. What I've seen the price and steel are a turnoff to buyers right now + BHQ Shaman coming right on the heels. I also believe ...

Re: Stretch XL Salt! Please Sal, can you make this happen?

H1 seems like a nonstarter due to blade grind?

Regardless, I'd buy one in whatever "Salt" steel. It's a great knife.

Re: Blade HQ Jade/M4 Dodo SE coming

Is selling out in minutes or hours now the measure of the success of a knife? I sure hope not. It's been that way for a decade and a half. This model will most likely follow the cult classic path like a lot of lower demand exclusives/sprints, but not selling out quickly on day one is a big Oof. The...

Re: Blade HQ Jade/M4 Dodo SE coming

Unless there's some sort of issue with the website, it seems Dodo demand is satisfied. In stock for a full day. Too bad I don't have the budget or I'd have bought another.

Re: Spyderco be like...

I mean, they can't make people buy knives. The venn diagram of "wants a tanto" and "wants a spyderco" has historically had very small overlap. Maybe changing now these past few years but I can't imagine it's Spyderco's fault for not making what doesn't sell.

A lot less demand for this one, or a lot bigger run. Still in stock an hour and a half after it went live.

The compression lock is my least favorite lock to use, as a left-hander. The mid-lock and liner lock are both much easier, and safer, for my use.

Re: I don't think the Stretch 2 is boring.

Seki knives, the Stretch 2 included, are excellent knives that work exceptionally well. They are also, almost universally, terrible conspicuous consumption products. A prominent youtuber finding them boring is as on-brand as can be. I found the Ivory Stretch SS to be one of the more aesthetically pl...

That article couldn't be from our JD, it has pictures :winking-tongue

Just kidding, always appreciate JD's contributions.

I've been keeping an eye for the Dodo exclusive I heard about last year at BLADE. Dodo is about the only model I'll buy no questions asked.

Re: Did Sal invented the pocket clip for folders ?

As for overall, you can also find this thread with an example of a pocket knife from the early 1900s with a clip: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/first-pocket-clip.1624711/ I've seen these referenced before and I'd take them with a grain of salt. To my eye, those pocket clips are contemporaneou...

H1 by far. I think I have around 10 knives with that steel.

Otherwise the only other Spydercos I own are VG10, S30V, and ZDP189.
