Re: Opinions on .380 for my wife

Hey murphjd25, I know you said your wife is small and a 9mm is pretty much out the window, but has she tried a Glock 43? Or a Kahr CM9/CW9? In 9mm I'm a Speer Gold Dot fan, all my 9mm pistols are loaded with Speer +P 124 grain Gold Dots but you/she don't have to use +P ammo. I'm a huge fan of Massa...

Re: Opinions on .380 for my wife

FBI research, and other research, has shown no difference in terminal performance with modern 9mm ammunition, 45 ACP, and 40 S&W. Any of these would make a person well armed. I also like what the surgeon said in the article above that it is shot placement with the slow moving (less than 1500 fp...

Re: Opinions on .380 for my wife

The Bodyguard .380 has a truly horrendous trigger pull. As in, she probably won't enjoy practicing with it. Revolvers are simple, but since most people are recommending a .38 J frame, they're also much more difficult to shoot and much less enjoyable to practice with. Something like a Shield or G43 m...

Re: Safety Glasses/Goggles vs Punch question

Glasses will do zero to protect you from impact. This is what is known as looking for a hardware solution to a software problem. Seek out professional training. Janich, McCann, Shivworks, Fry, Sharp, Burch, Ellifritz, and many others have outstanding material. 3-6 months in a boxing or MMA gym or in...

Re: Shortening the blade of a Yojimbo or Ronin?

If you're the slightest bit interested in defensive carry, you want the Ronin. Fixed blades are vastly easier to access under duress, particularly while in contact with an assailant. You mention Chicago, so I assume you're talking about Keith? Talk to him, and he'll echo this sentiment. A fixed blad...

Buy the m390 PM2. It's the only folding Spyderco made with that steel so it's pretty rare.

There was also the CF/M390 Military.

Re: Evil D

Why on Earth would Spyderco take on the risk involved in giving items to customers who haven't fully paid for the item? I think you have the concept of layaway backwards, you don't get the item until it's paid off, you send in payments until paid in full. There is absolutely zero risk for the selle...

Re: Layaway program for more expensive Spyderco Models: Thoughts?

I consistently can't make up my mind whether you're a troll or not. Why don't you tell us what your opinion is on the positives and downsides to this?

Edited to add: I was thinking leasing, my mistake, but I still think it's completely not worth Spyderco's time and resources to get involved.

Re: 2016 Discontinued List

After some research, I decided it's a Stretch 2. The original Stretch was stainless with a Kraton inlay. The lightweight was THE SAME pattern as the original. The Brown G-10 version was a DIFFERENT PATTERN and is thus the "2". The new lightweight is the SAME PATTERN as the Brown G-10 vers...

Grant and Gavin Hawk have a lever clip, CRK uses it on the Ti-Lock.

Re: Military framelock/G10 Scale

There have been a few that I can't name off the top of my head but most of them were Ti/CF, which isn't really difficult to change if you really prefer G10. The problem is they're all discontinued so you may have trouble finding one. Only factory one has been the CPM-M4 G10/Ti version. There is a C...

Re: Show me your well used Slysz Bowie & Techno

Yeah, that experience is very atypical. You just don't hear hardly any complaints about the Techno or Slysz Bowie, they tend to be just about perfect. Like was said, a well used one looks pretty much like a new one. Mine has a few light marks on the blade, and a few scuffs on the handle, but they're...

This thread could use some pics. :D It's worth it, though. Very, very refined. There's a reason people say it competes with the Sebenza and similar knives. I carried a Sebenza for a decade, but have carried a Slysz Bowie for the last several. http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s400/Studey/64664AE2-...

What you say is true, but it misses the point of zhyla's question: If you were suspicious of someone in your criminal organization and found a Civilian on him, what would you think? Now, perhaps those involved in real life organized crime are not quite as paranoid as they're made out to be in movie...

Re: Manbug Salt and "Fish Hunter" confirmed?

It work hardens, so the more it's ground, the harder it gets. Flat grinds are done one side at a time, which means the second side would be tremendously hard to grind. A machine in a production setting can hollow grind both sides of the blade simultaneously.
