Nick,

Good to hear that you've had no problems with checked luggage. Some people had told me horror stories about having items stolen from checked luggage.

NYC knife climate

We are going to visit NYC at Christmastime as part of a family vacation. My delightful daughter wants to see the store windows decorated for the holidays, and my wife and I are suckers. :o Since we will fly into New York, I can't take any of my knives. :( But I figure I can treat myself to something...

I like the compression lock on the ATR very much. For a righty, it is very convenient for one-handed open/closing. The CL is a brilliant innovation.

The only upgrade I'd recommend for the ATR is phosphor bronze washers to make it smooth.

I enjoy my Mora knives. Great inexpensive tools.

I strop the entire bevel on very fine sand paper (1500 grit)laid over an old mouse pad. Learned this from a web search on convex grinds. Works great.

I'm not sure if this will help, but it seemed in the ball park. This is an assignment from my daughter's high school World History text book, "Imagine that you and a friend are stranded on a large uninhabited island. You have no tools except a pocket knife. ...You must survive until rescued,......

Thanks for the topic, Allen. The next named Atlantic storm is Ivan. Ivan is still out in the Atlantic, east of the windward islands. Thus far, we have been OK here at my house in Orlando. Other homes have been less fortunate and have received damage from Frances on top of damage from Charley. Thanks...

Sal, I've carried a pocket knife every day since I was 8. I'm now 57. My dad gave me my first knife. We lived and worked on a farm and used our pocket knives for every day farm chores (opening feed sacks, cutting twine from hay bales, etc.). My dad was a peaceful man, and he carried a pocket knife u...

I also like my Spyderco J D Smith as a mid-sized folder for dress carry. The micarta scales and light weight make it very convenient.

It is discontinued but I see it occasionally on the web.

I just ordered two more. My daughter liked mine and insisted on one for her; so I thought a pair and a spare is good.

Nicky, you might try ordering again. SFO say they shipped my order.

That's a great looking knife, Sammo. Thanks for the pics. Does the "old school FB-01" have a distinctive name or number that makes it clear that it is not the current production model? And thanks for the "bumps." I've enjoyed seeing this thread and the other Moran bumped thread. ...

Moran knives

I am considering buying a Moran Featherweight. The local shop has a drop point in stock. I like the feel of the handle a lot, and I believe I would prefer the trailing point design. I'd like to hear your experiences with the two Spyderco Moran knives. Also, confirm the grind. A couple of reviews sta...

Is it worth it? Great question, and one you have to answer for yourself. I chose yes. I decided it compared well to the Sebenza, and I really like the blade design, compression lock, handle ergonomics, and materials. I had a little cash to spare and was willing to spend it. (Best price I found was T...

Just got my ATR today, and I'm looking forward to getting acquainted.

Got mine locally, but the best on-line price I've seen is on http://www.thefirestore.com/store/product.cfm?pID=2036. Don't know anything about them as a vendor, though; so, caveat emptor.
