Ok Clip, thanks for the link. So, specificaly, plastic deformation caused by heat during friction from grinding the serrations is what causes the steel to harden at the edge, and plastic deformation does indeed fall under the definition of work hardening as one of two processes that cause it. I stan...

Alright fellas, I'll just set myself straight here and be a lot more clear. Since I am not actually sure to a 100% percent degree what this H1 does, and havn't been able to find a difinitive, credible, scientific answer, I'll just give my hypothesis. I think that it's definitely possible that since ...

H1 is also a very low carbide steel and because of this it has high edge stability. With the teeth protecting the scallops, and a supposedly very hard edge, and the high edge stability, it is a good choice to get serrations unless you're a PE only kinda person. I believe that's why it works very wel...

The ball bearing lock is nothing to be afraid of. The contact surface areas are, as Blerv said, self-adjusting for any wear, have coil springs that last longer than leaf springs, and there's much less actual metal-on-metal contact. I see no problems with this lock at all, it seems quite space-age to...

Who Here on Spyderco Forums is a Fisherman or Fisherwoman?
Hey everyone, I was wondering how many forum members are into fishing? Any kind at all, ice, freshwater, saltwater, inshore, deep ocean, rivers, lakes, etc. I have always loved to fish. Probably one of my favorite activities ever. Really it's more addictive to me than just about anything else. So wh...

I agree, the medium rods give great bite and cutting ability for my tasks too. S30V, D2, VG-10, 154CM, 420HC, and a few other cheaper steels I have sharpened with my brown rods turned out well. Some steels, particularly high-carbide ones like D2, Z30V, and in my experience VG-10, do hold a toothy ed...

Ok, I have a 6x2 Xtra Coarse and a 6x2 Fine/Coarse combo stone. The Atoma 140 is something I'm hoping to get in the future for really fast reprofiling/ damage repair. I watched a couple videos, and the cluster idea really makes sense. More diamonds bunched into little dots would put more pressure on...

Thanks for the reply Cliff, I appreciate it. I've been doing a lot of reading on your site and posts here, and really like the way you present your findings in a standardized format. Your info itself is exactly the kind of stuff I look for. Performance-based writups and posts like this are what give...

I like my Dragonfly 2 Orange a lot, the knife cuts much better than its size suggests because of the ergos and overall blade shape plus thin ffg and full distal taper. My black native has done very well as an in-between, all-around EDC. When i have no plans, and see no need for either a smaller OR l...
