Re: Native 5 Salt CPM-Magnacut Plain Blade-any idea when shipping?

This is weird. It was available at Lamnia, Coutellerie Tourangelle and Couteaux Center. The listing disappeared on Coutellerie Tourangelle, which is weird since it was restocked twice. 'Guess it's in really in high demand relative to the thin stocks they're allocated. Will be on the look out, thank...

I just watch the info on Lamnia ... so far it was shifting every month by a month. Realistically - I expect it will be fall before they reach the shores of the old continent. But I hope the k390 Leaf Jumper will be here soon.
Quoted for September as of now 😑

Re: New to Spyderco and have a Para 3, just had it open and bite me while in pocket

If one were to go on a search of possible weaknesses of the spydiehole, than keys accidentally partially opening the knife would be one of the very few. Long time ago I, for a rather brief period used to carry Ladybug on my key. And after a similar experience I stopped. I learned that only a fool n...

Re: Fixing Lock Rock in Seki FRN lockbacks

I keep repeating : why don’t they implement the internal stop pin ???!!! Reading this thread, I wonder as well. If it could be successfully applied to other, comparable Spyderco knives, why wasn't the stop pin generalised to all backlocks ? (Except perhaps the minuscule keychain ones, as their use ...

This thread got me thinking that an Automini, the size of a Chaparral or Delica, could be pretty cool.

Re: Para 3 Lovefest, Where Did It Go?

It's not completely clear to me if it's the supply or the demand that has dried up. Rule of thumb : if it's available outside of the USA, it's not a supply problem 😑 For my part, I could a procure a Para 3 BD1N easily, but I'll be sending it back because it feels awkward in my hand. I think the sha...

Re: Para 3 Lovefest, Where Did It Go?

Is it actually any smaller? I've never seen them side by side, but spyderco's website lists them as the same size. They'd need to trim it down to 3.9" closed, thin the blade and maybe slim it down otherwise to create the model I was thinking of. Actually you're almost right, their handles seem...

Re: Para 3 Lovefest, Where Did It Go?

If they did a para 3.2 where they slim it down so it's competitive with the chaparral, that might become the must-have small spyderco knife. They probably can't get the blade stock that thin, but they certainly could slim it down a little and cut a lot of excess off the handle. That's sort of what ...

Re: Opinion : the Dragonfly 3 should look like the Byrd Robin 2

Thanks for all your feedbacks so far. It is certainly true that the hardest part of designing a handle for the mass is to come up with something which works for most. The Dragonfly has clearly been doing well with this form factor for many years. OTOH, so did the Robin. Perhaps a middle ground could...

Opinion : the Dragonfly 3 should look like the Byrd Robin 2

Alright, let me throw a rock in the pond. I have just received the Dragonfly 2 Wharncliffe in VG-10, and compared its ergonomics with my Robin 2. As I already suspected from the pictures, I prefer those of the Robin. To me, they're more refined. My contentions are as follows : 1. The handle is too t...

Are those finger grooves in the handle or am I seeing things??
These should be shadows from the pine tree's "leaves".

Re: Hazy Design Studio scales

They weren't really rough per say, just unfinished. I started with 220 grit foam sanding block, then to a 400 grit block, then finished with 800 grit. I suppose I could have went higher like 1500 or 2000 grit, I just didn't have any on hand. Im betting they would really pop and shine if you accompl...

Re: Next GOLDEN ERA Sprint Run Desired?

I don’t see where you’re getting the “salt” aspect in the calypso jr model, or a salt version of the chaparral. A salt knife is a matter of the steel primarily and the calypso jr hasn’t gotten any pure stain resistant steel runs. It has a more "robust" aspect than the Chaparral to my eyes...

Re: Next GOLDEN ERA Sprint Run Desired?

What do you like about this model over alternatives? This one comes up a lot. People seem to hold it in high regard. Personally, I love the Caly series and hope it continues plus a 4" version. For something small and stout I like the native 5. But the Jr keeps coming up as a suggestion, so I'm...

I recently purchased my Hazy Design Studio's Mule Team scales and I absolutely love them. I chose "copper dark matter" for my pattern. The scales came kinda rough so I sanded them to a smooth finish and rubbed in some oil and boom these babies pop. Beautiful ! Can explain where they were ...

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

Many would probably buy them, but, since Spyderco doesn't make them, and has their reasons, why not just buy an aftermarket clip if the original doesn't do it for you? I can think of two reasons : 1) It is inconvenient having to deal with a secondary company, which may or may not be as reliable as ...

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

I’ve not ever really looked into the Byrd lineup, to be honest. The “flair” of the thumb hole has kinda put me off, as shallow reasoning as that might be. You should give it a try. They've got a Delica-like (Meadowlark), for example, which brings the finger choil which the Delica lacks. So it's not...

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

1) The lack of a truly competitive entry in the <$50 price bracket. This used to be where Spyderco really thumped the competition, especially if you expanded to <$100. Unfortunately, while I love the Seki City lock backs, I don't think, say, a standard Delica at $88 is a compelling deal. Similarly,...

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

The fish-scale texture on Calypsos was really awesome, for the life of me I can't imagine why they dropped it. I just stumbled on the Calypso Jr, which I hadn't heared about, and it sure looks like a Chaparral Salt (with a lovely Dragonfly-type swedged blade) ! https://www.couteaux-berthier.com/Fil...
