My Spyderco dilemma...

Hi guys, I just got a Chaparral for Fathers Day, and I picked it to be my go to office EDC for several reasons. Size, (length and width), looks (CF), deep pocket wire clip, etc. I've been working it in for a few days now because it's so stiff, and it's just not getting easier to deploy like my other...

Re: Proud owner of a new Chaparral

I'm still looking forward to getting my hands on my new Chaparral i just ordered. It was very hard to decide whether to go with the Chaparral or the Sage 1... but you know how it is... i ended up getting both :D The Sage 1 already arrived and oh boy, i didn't expect it to be that nice. Best Linerlo...

Re: Proud owner of a new Chaparral

Yeah, I had the same problem with my Manix2 LW. Loosened the pivot about 1/8 of a turn, and now it's absolutely perfect. No blade play, either. I have some torx bits, but all were too big. I'll have to buy a set. Do you know the Torx size for the Chap so I know the kit will include the correct size?

I'm feeling the same sentiments.

Re: Proud owner of a new Chaparral

I love my Chaparrals, it's not considered "pocket knife perfection" for no reason. http://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=69304&p If you have a loop or magnifying glass take a closer look at that spydie and you'll begin to appreciate it much more than the plain black ...

Proud owner of a new Chaparral

Technically it's my Fathers Day present so I haven't yet "received" it, but when you're the one in charge of picking up the mail from the neighbourhood lock box, you are able to sneak in a few minutes of knife fondling before it gets stored away until Sunday. Super impressed with this bad ...

Re: Suggestions on sharpening my knives

Every self respecting Spyderco fan should own at least one Paramilitary. It is indeed a great design and is immensely popular for a reason. If I recall correctly, you lean towards smaller knives. The pm2 is no Dragonfly, but it really isn't all that big (just a tiny bit bigger than you Tenacious). ...

Re: Suggestions on sharpening my knives

ryguy76 I know you're fairly new at collecting, so am I. I don't know if you like mid size folders. I usually carry smaller folders. Picked up a paramilitary 2. I recommend getting one. I knew they were popular, didn't know what all the hype was about until.. I held this one in my hand. Wish it was...

Re: Suggestions on sharpening my knives

Yep. Buy a sharpmaker with the additional diamond rods. Watch the video that comes with it and ask questions around here as you go. You will be a pro in no time. ;) I noticed you suggested the diamond rods, do you prefer that to the UF rods? The diamond rods are on the opposite end of the spectrum ...

Re: Never owned a Chaparral.Did I miss anything ?

Well, I managed it. I was able to convince my wife I needed the ever so classy Chaparral for Father's Day. I figured I was going to pull the trigger on a Delica next, that just edged out the Native, but outta nowhere, the Chappie pulled into the lead and upset those two. I am confident that I'm goin...

Re: Never owned a Chaparral.Did I miss anything ?

Good to know, fellas. It didn't seem like a deal breaker to me. Was considering the Delica which juuuuust squeezed out the Native, but after looking at the Chaparral a little more, I think it may have to be the next buy. :)

Re: Never owned a Chaparral.Did I miss anything ?

Great knife but I had to get rid of it due to the lock bar being so thin that it always hurt my thumb. Plus the fact that there is no Boye dent and the cutout for the lock is squared off make it worse. I watched a review on YouTube last night and the reviewer said the same. How bad is it? Uncomfort...

Re: Spyderholics anonymous?

The struggle is REAL. Having bought 3 Spydies in 3 weeks (and the SharpMaker), and now working on my fourth by months end, my wife is definitely worried about me. Knives didn't register at all on my radar a month ago. Now, after being immersed in it from the original research of my initial Tenacious...

Re: ready for 3rd Knife... guide me, plz :)

Thanks guys. I was planning on hanging out with the SharpMaker for awhile and really getting to know it. I was thinking I'd stick to using it alone until the time came that I wasn't actually thinking about using good technique, it was just happening on it's own, and I felt that I needed "more ...

Re: Clearly I have a problem - like the rest of you

Its really a bit of a tossup. You'll have both soon enough so get whichever steel you want to try first. Maybe go with vg10 first since s35vn is a bit harder to sharpen. Work your way up. Agreed. Is VG10 easier or harder to sharpen compared to the HAP40? How does the ease of sharpening of those two...

Re: Clearly I have a problem - like the rest of you

Weird. I posted a response last night, but it's not showing. Oh well. Surf, I'm really digging your recommendation on the HAP40 so far, so was giving your comments on these two some good thought. I really like the look of the Native, it's likely my favourite looking Spydie, but I think I want to try...

Re: Clearly I have a problem - like the rest of you

Ok, since I got to spend your money last time, I'll try again. ;) Both the Native and the Delica are excellent knives. Native -I like s35vn better than vg10. Both are easy to sharpen but I get a bit better edge retention out of s35vn. -The lock on the Native is better. They are both excellent backl...
