Re: Sage series collection - What's the next Sage?
We probably won't do anything with the "Cross-bar" Lock, as it seems to be very popular with a large number of Makers. It’s not a bad lock but I think CBB is better by far. Cross bar springs always strike me as a failure point waiting to happen. It may be an old lock at this point but the...

Just ordered a combo edge Native Chief LW for $100 from Knife Joy. Would have loved to get that $80 SE version but they’re all gone.

Re: EDC Hygiene: Fixed Blade VS. Folder
I really don’t understand how people run into “food prep” tasks outside of a kitchen so often that EDC knives need to touch food. Do you people lack teeth?

3 tests; Average = 59.7 This is typical. Old and new VG-10 the same. sal I appreciate you checking. I guess VG10 isn’t the slouch YouTube says it is This is the wrong conclusion to draw here. Most (all?) cutlery steels, including the cheapest 8CrMoV13, can hit 60 Rc. VG-10 can get as high as 62 I b...

Re: Boating and lanyards
My solution is to bring one of a pile of old slip joints I bought at a garage sale for a few bucks a piece. I don’t care if they rust or go overboard.

Re: Spyderco and hrc
Honestly everybody knows Spyderco knows how to achieve proper heat treatments. As do most reputable knife factories with most common steels. I think there’s a lot of hand wringing about hardness because 20 years ago heat treatment was a bit less optimal in cheaper knives.

Re: Spyderco and hrc
This is the nine tenths of the required knowledge lying below the surface of what we can see. This is the funniest part about this post: it’s just wrong. I’m not opposed to target hardness being made available. But without edge geometry it’s pretty useless information. Most customers won’t really k...

Yikes guys. I thought this forum was better than this. Ugaarguy, we get it, you think this is worth Spyderco bringing this to market. I would not get too offended by people disagreeing with you. I don’t know how Sal decides which of these threads to pay attention to. But if you’re super convinced yo...

Re: New Manix 2 with Uneven Bevel
Uneven bevels is not “normal” IMO. The fact that most people accept the situation doesn’t mean that it’s not an issue. For the money we pay they should come with even and consistent cutting bevels on both sides. Most buyers don’t have the skills and/or the tools to solve this issue and some are qui...

BUT: For the "market" I am almost certain the Chap DOES need "something else" to sell it (better)! You’re probably right. People certainly enjoyed the Dragonfly color boom. People these days just want more rustproof steels Are you talking enthusiast people or just people? Cause ...

So, for the sake of conversation, on the frn version, whaddayouwant? Colors, Steels or specific combinations? sal Honestly the gray FRN is nice, CTS-XHP is great, and you guys finally put out an SE version. I often say the Chap LW is the best knife Spyderco makes. I imagine some people would apprec...

So, 2.8" blade folder, 3.38" blade folder, and 4.4" blade folder? But you also say there's no need for anything between a 2.5" blade folder and a Machete. Which is it? And you advocate for the 3.4" blade Manix 2, but you want to argue a against that middle size in a Native?...

I thought some might find this amusing. Look at how tiny the Astute is next to the Tenacious. And yet the Tenacious has about 1/2" more blade. https://i.imgur.com/qBTJEtAl.jpg The Ambitious' bulk really shows here. I've always like the Ambitious proportions but it's quite chunky. I'm not sure w...

Re: Native Scout?
Some legal jurisdictions think so, but IME handle size matters a lot more. I can’t think of any task I use a 4” folder for that a 2.5” folder won’t do.
For me it goes Chaparral, Manix 2 or Police, then machete.

Re: New Manix 2 with Uneven Bevel
Obviously it depends on how “uneven” we’re talking about here. Being noticeably uneven is not what I would consider “normal” for any name brand knife, let alone Spyderco.
In any case, you should return the knife if it seems off. There will always be QA escapes, you may just have a bad unit.

Re: Native Scout?
it's a bit too long, and by not adding height to scales and blade the proportions are thrown off A few minutes with a file will solve this. I strongly prefer the more secure clip mounting of thread inserts that liner-less handles provide Threaded inserts are not more secure than threaded holes in s...

Re: Roadie: Tell Me About This Knife
In other words, what is it good at? I think it was intended more for youths wasn’t it? Most of Spyderco’s other offerings are better at everything than the Roadie. By that I mean it’s sort of a traditional style slip joint and Spyderco was founded on making knives that exceed the traditional style ...
