Re: Choosing an Edge Angle Based on Steel Type

I think it also has to do with how tough you want your knife to be. Cliff Stamp made a video a while back saying that you could get the same performance between two completely different steels by thinning out the angle on the lower performing steel. You'll be able to cut more from a "cheap"...

Re: FRN/Lightweights: I just can’t get into them

There seems to be a lot of different opinions from people on the market. That's why there are a lot of different companies that make different things. Kind of like the companies that make pry bars with an edge on them. I have grown to think that if something is designed to bend, it isn't likely to b...

Re: Any Plans for a Manix2 G10 in Spy27 and Blue G10?

There was a Blue G-10 Manix 2 sprint done with CPM-S30V. It was one of the first. I can't remember if the Olive Drab Green with CTS-XHP or the Blue with CPM-S30V, which was first and which was second. They could probably do a different shade of Blue (or the same). I don't think the Blue on the SPY2...

Re: Para 3 Lightweight Modifications/After Market Parts

How much different are the liners between the Para 3 and the Para 3 lightweight?

*edit* I just watched a video and there are ALMOST NO liners in the Para 3 lightweight. You probably won't find anything that isn't layered titanium.

Re: Authenticity check

It looks pretty legit to me. I don't know if any of the cheap guys would bother going through all the trouble to copy the PPT. There are some semi-complicated production methods used to make it. Most copy-cats would probably be very obvious. I love the PPT, have two originals and one Sprint. I might...

Re: Give us a tour of your knife drawer

Mine are a mess, kind of all over the place in a few locations. I have 3 Spyder Packs in a closet, a bunch tossed in a cardboard box, about 10 set out for EDC, maybe 6 fixed blades in a plastic storage container with some other tools, my Junglas and Estwing hatchet are separate on a shelf.

Re: My first Spyderco experience

I do know that if an individual ships International, it's quite a bit more difficult. I basically can't use any automation, I have to wait in line, I have to answer questions at the counter, and I have to pay maybe 5 times as much to ship. It has been one week, I think a week to ship isn't too bad ...

I think the Moldmasters are good for finishing, but don't the ruby stones cut faster for setting an angle?

Re: Byrd with high-end steel

I was wondering how much better D2 is than 8Cr13. I've been kind of on a cheap knife kick off and on recently. It seems like a lot of made in China knives come with AUS-8 or 8Cr13 (which translates to english as 440C :) ) or D2 is usually an option. Are the Chinese steel factories capable of making...

Re: I'm going to EDC PE H1 until August

Looking at your sharpness testing after cutting cardboard, it looks like you cut more cardboard with the edge closest to your hand (which I think is normal). You can't cut paper with that section of the edge, but you can cut paper with most of the rest of the edge. I tested a Dragonfly Salt on cardb...

I'll keep my eyes peeled for what the replacement is. Hopefully Hitachi has something else that works very well. It would be nice to step forward rather than sideways or backwards.

Have you tried a Manix 2 XL or a C95 Manix? They have a hook at the end of the handle, but it's only useful once you get it opened.

Re: I will now EDC a Jumpmaster 2 for 1 year

I inner waist band carry either a Fusion or a Doc Pinkerton wharnie when I'm on Self Defense carry. The Fusion came cord wrapped and the cord irritates my skin. I wonder if you'll end up smoothing out some of the handle. I thought H1 toughness was supposed to be off the charts. It could be compressi...

Re: Yojimbo Love?

I watched a video where Mike said he wanted to make the original yojimbo 1 in a denim blue. I’d say just make that happen. Denim blue micarta with stonewashed blade and clip would be perfect. I like the blade and ergonomics and think that denim micarta and stonewashed would fit it well. The Yojimbo...

I'm also looking for a teal Delica for her if anyone knows where I might find one. I think the Delica might suit her hand size better and the thumb ramp will be easier to open. That Tiffany blue is her favorite color. If you have trouble finding a Teal Delica (I thought it was called blue) and you ...

This knife is surprisingly good. I like mine a lot, but don't seem to carry it as often as I should.
