Rock-Jumper Speculation

So Sal has mentioned a few times that one of the upcoming models is the Rock-Jumper. What we know: FRN Seki City maker tooling up. http://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=80613&start=40#p1252660 My guess is a Schempp Rock blade but with the less radical (and existing mold) Jumpma...

Re: China and tariffs

I will let my subconscious chew on Sal's question at the beginning of the thread, but my initial thought is: I will continue to trust Spyderco to deliver quality knives at fair prices.

Re: Fixed Blade Hawkbill: We Need To Talk

A hawkbill with a deep curve is problematic on the sheath. Either difficult to deploy or very wide. sal Perhaps a sheath with part of the back cut out, sort of like the Darn Dao https://www.google.com/search?q=spyderco+darn+dao&rlz=1C1CHWA_enUS517US518&oq=spyderco+darn+&aqs=chrome.0.0j6...

Re: The SE mentality shift

Getting back on topic; I picked up a Fish Hunter for both serrated cutting ability combined with high puncturing ability plus fixed blade quick deployment use in cutting and and/or draining garbage while participating in kayak based litter pickups. It has excelled at that task. Looking forward to th...

Re: The SE mentality shift

Like many,I got my Spyderco start in full SE. Then I realized that for some tasks such as whittling and where fine control and cutting is needed, that PE was better for a lot of things. EDCed one of each for a while, until I got one of the last ComboEdge Military. Still, when I am going into unknown...

Re: Police versus military?

A few points not yet mentioned: The Police FRN is coming relatively soon. Same features, grippier Bidirectional texture (see Endura and Delica) than G-10, and lower price. The Police has a longer blade and .73 more inches of edge length. The Military has a little more blade belly, though the differe...

Re: Visited the SFO. And the winner is....the McBee???

Interesting. An excellent candidate for lanyard customization. Currently I use Gerber EAB for the roles you guys describe for it, including as a secondary EDC, plus the added functionality as a beater and pryer since the blade is easily replaceable. But this would be a good substitute for more forma...

Re: FRN Police 4

No room for a lanyard hole, but I imagine a custom or aftermarket lanyard bail or loop of some sort could be screwed into one or both sides of the scale using the unused clip screw holes. Depending on the design, it could still accommodate both tip up or tip down. Something as simple as a a U shaped...

We'll use a Golden back lock.

I am surprised that the StopLock or PowerLock is not planned.
When I handled the Tatanka, it just did not appeal to me for some reason, I forget why.

Re: FRN Police 4

Anything is possible. The question will be demand? Let's bring out the first model first and see what happens. Is there a large enough market for 1200 DLC pieces? Knives over 4" in blade length are not as popular as the 4" or under knives. A DLC Stainless Partially Serrated in Black FRN w...

SpaceX will invent the next super steel before this NASA stuff gets released

I actually have a friend who works for SpaceX
I'll have to ask her for some spare steel
IIRC LC200N had it's origin in nasa rocket engine bearings that are bathed in lOx, and so need extreme corrosion resistance.

Re: Bio-engineered spider silk for handle material

Definitely an early adopter phase technology. Using yeast to produce the needed protein is new to me. A previous efforts in the limelight was using transgenic goats to make the spider silk in their milk. IMHO The process of spinning the protein into fiber at production quantities and reasonable cost...
