Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
A question for those using belt sanders/grinders: Casper F uses the hard rubber wheel of his belt sander/grinder as his backstop. Captain Vege uses the metal platen (back plate) as his backstop. Can we discuss the advantages/disadvantages of each? The rubber wheel would be round with a little give ...

Re: MT40P – HIC Mule Team Dropping Soon!
Just to throw in, mine came sharp, not consistently sharp through the whole edge. Nothing like a new steel Spyderco. I appreciate the sharpening sharing going on here; I don’t have anything that would sharpen this yet but I was inclining towards a wheel with some sort yield to it and a very fine di...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
What's the story on HEAT at the edge of a ceramic knife? If I were to put a steel edge to my belt grinder (regardless of the belt being used) I'd be worrying about heat and temper. What's the story with ceramic? Any problem if the edge gets hot? Hopefully someone with more intimate knowledge of the...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
The 1000 grit belt I used is a Silicon Carbide belt from Red Label Abrasives. It came as part of a sharpening belt set that they sell on Amazon. For $30 you get six belts (two of each 600, 800, and 1000). I’ve had them for years and honestly haven’t used them much because I tend to do my initial gr...

Re: My Folding Mule Project
I got the pivot hole drilled today, which feels like a big step forward. After some deliberation I decided to just go with a 1/8” hole and forgo a pivot bushing, but I figure I can always enlarge the hole to use one if need be. Hopefully the ceramic is low enough friction that it doesn’t need one, b...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
As many others have said, out of the box my Mule did not seem to be especially sharp. It would cut printer paper but had a tendency to snag and tear, and it wouldn’t shave arm hair. I will say that before doing anything to it I tested it out on some double thick cardboard that I had and it handled i...

Re: MT40P – HIC Mule Team Dropping Soon!
Whats is hardness of those mules? I don’t have any specific number to give you, but I will say that it appears to be harder than a solid carbide drill bit judging by the fact that it doesn’t scratch the surface. This morning I was able to successfully drill through the handle of mine using diamond ...

Re: My Folding Mule Project
Here is the first step towards making a folder out of the HIC Mule, successfully making sure I can drill holes in it. This is without a doubt the hardest material I have ever tried to drill through. The Rex76 Mule was hard as a *****, but with solid carbide bits and plenty of oil lubricant it was sl...

Re: My Folding Mule Project
Turned out great! Are You planning to make a folding HIC one? :D I’m going to try, but we’ll see how it goes. First thing I want to do is test drill a hole in the tang for a pivot, which I plan to do somewhere near the tail of the handle so if it cracks I still have a usable knife. If that goes wel...

Re: You got your Ceramic Mule. How you gonna sharpen it?
My plan is to try a linen belt loaded with diamond compound on the 2x72 with a rubber contact wheel. I’ve never sharpened anything like this but if this doesn’t work I’ll probably go to fine diamond stones. I read that these should be done with pretty fine grit to avoid chipping, so my thought was ...

Re: MT40P – HIC Mule Team Dropping Soon!
This is knife history being made. A major knife maker is using a ceramic that can be used as a viable EDC knife. I think to ensure some people don’t use these as cry bars, perhaps a salt slip joint would make the most sense especially since it would be least potentially damaging “locking” mechanism...

Re: Show off your Mule team scales!
Purple Heart Mule scales on my 15v Mules. I made the folder slightly thinner than the fixed Mule just to make it a little nicer in the pocket. I also decided to hide the pivot and standoff hardware to make the folder look more like the fixed blade when open. I didn’t have enough 4-40 screws to mount...
