Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?

A trip down memory lane! :smiling-cheeks I suppose I have modded about a dozen Manix 2's by now. One day I'll dig into my photo album, and post more of them here. These pictures I took are dated March 2019. I had just replaced a set of scales on one of my S110V models, and was just about to add a ba...

Re: Spyderco 2023 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

Thank you both! I watched that video again, that RamZar just now shared here. I do remember watching that video, and see now that I had hit the 'Like' button then, and even commented on it. Though I must have just turned away from the TV for a moment, to pour a cup of coffee or something, and I miss...

Re: Spyderco 2023 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

This January 1st, 2023. In this thread. Is the very first I've heard about the Manix2 Lightweight Salt (CQI screwed construction) CPM-MagnaCut Yellow FRCP C101YL2 (USA) - SHOT Show (JAN 2022) Does this mean I missed it somehow, or don't remember it being mentioned/shown back then? About a year ago ...

Re: To DLC or not to DLC?

For me personally. I have to vote "Added corrosion resistance". I love the looks of great grind work on my satin blades. But, to make my life just a little easier. I do like to now have DLC on steels that really do need it for corrosion resistance. Sometimes I just get a little tired of wa...

Re: K390 Manix 2

Something strange must be going on with this K390 Manix 2 combo, or even a K390 Shaman. They have got to be the only two knives that have not gotten the K390 treatment so far, right? This does get brought up about three or four times a year. ;) As another no so fun fact. The Manix 2 Maxamet, never d...

Re: Golden factory…next level factory edges

I know it's not from Golden, but I just tested the Rex76 Mule from Taichung the other night and it scored in the 110 range, which is the sharpest out of the box I've tested so far. Cutting one cardboard box into tiny pieces brought it down to 180ish. Remarkable how fast initial sharpness fades. Wha...

Re: Golden factory…next level factory edges

I find sub 75 BESS on a factory edge hard to believe. 55 even harder. 50 BESS is as sharp as an ultra thin fresh out of the package bic razor you shave your face with. I have a WE130 with all the bells and whistles it's hard for me to get a sub 100. I don't think I've ever gotten lower than 80ish. ...

Re: MT33 CPM REX 76 -First Impressions, Performance, and Testing Thread

Seemed fitting to drop these scales from a pma11 mule, until I find a more permanent handle solution. https://i.imgur.com/hS7QCUo.jpeg Later today, maybe, I can get some cutting and get a better feel for the knife. It's good to have a chance to get a little mineral oil under those PMA 11 scales any...

Re: Golden factory…next level factory edges

The last two Golden knives I’ve gotten (the REC Manix and the M4 shaman) have had unbelievable, razor sharp, reflective factory edges. I’m trying to think back…I don’t remember them being like this before. I seem to remember my Z-wear Shaman and M390 Manix coming with more “ground” edges. Has anyon...

Re: MT33P - CPM REX 76 Mule Team Release!

Thank you for the reminder, RamZar! :cheap-sunglasses I was a bit surprised, when seeing the 'Taiwan' portion on the Spec sheet tonight, for some odd reason. I suppose mostly because that steel had to be shipped over there. I must just have 'Golden' on the brain! A stack of HAP 72 would have been cl...

Nicely done Steve! Thank you for sharing the pics! You are quite welcome Buddafucco. I was happy to do it! Here is a picture taken from Phil's website, of a natural micarta drop-point Bow River he made years ago. I am so glad that he has kept a photograph record of many of the knives he has made. N...

Re: Sprig Re-run

I put my Bow River(s) on the belt grinder the day I got them. To give them just a bit of a drop point. (Sorry Phil) :cowboy I also ground the leading edge of the scales back at an angle on my Bow River (BR) when I got it. Making for a much nicer pinch grip area. Pics of the mods? Here you go, Budda...

Re: Sprig Re-run

More 'Sprig's' would get me excited!   :cheap-sunglasses This may not be along the lines of what the original poster is thinking, but hear me out until the end. I own a Sprig now , and I also own a Bow River (4 actually). So a new configuration would be needed, to get my money. Having had both of th...

Re: Manix 2 G10 in K390

Hard to believe this combo hasn't gotten done yet. One of the better tool steels and also relatively cheap, along with one of the most popular beefy models (sorry don't really care for the lightweight). Hopefully some retailer is working on it? Don't even get me started! :zany I've been bringing th...

Many of the Japanese made regular production Lightweight folder models now give you a choice of VG-10 or S30V stainless steels or K390 tool steel: Ladybug, Manbug, Dragonfly2, Delica4, Endela, Endura4, Police4, etc. How about the same for the US made regular production folders where only a stainles...

Re: Z-Max feedback. How is yours performing?

I just gave mine a light touch up when it arrived but I need to give it a full sharpening to compare it to my other Mules. The edge is holding up nicely after breaking down several large boxes and some light food prep on a wood cutting board but my PMA11 Mule that hasn't been sharpened in well over...

I'm very happy to see another translucent Manix and I'm sure to get this one in 20CV. Now if we could only get one with a clear translucent handle, as it was presented in the original production prototype! https://spydercollector.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/spyderco_amsterdammeet2010_prototype_mani...

There are so many great suggestions here! I smiled large, while reading through this thread. Then come back here with a short list, and put up a...
