This is very interesting and exciting for me. I'm very curious about the indentations in the handle. Have they ever been clearly explained? The price with G-10 handles and better steel is lower than the FRN Cricket -- I think. At least I assume when someone from Spyderco states a price it is going t...

Am getting frustrated. Just spent quite a bit of time looking at many web vendors, looking for a pic of a non-serrated Merlin or Harpy. Totally fruitless. A few days ago, spent even longer looking for a pic of the Lum Chinese with a serrated edge. Nada. Am beginning to believe that Spyderco simply d...

For me, putting the compression lock on the Wegner would do. For more universal appeal, and because I believe it already has the compression lock, the not-Lynx may already have achieved that "perfect" designation. Will have to wait til it's release to say for sure. Darn -- tried to put a p...

FWIW -- Knife Center lists the blade length on the Merlin as 2 7/8" or 73mm. It just lists the 2 7/8" for the Harpy SS.

The potential abandonment of your warranty. Should you make marks inside, fail to get it back together properly, am pretty sure that Spyderco would feel your warranty was violated, and not do any work for free. I may be wrong about the Military, but in general, Spyderco isn't anxious to have custome...

I checked out the site. As it loaded, I saw that it was actually a section of the site belonging to "The Knife Store." (http://theknifestore.com) I've never bought anything there, but have had the site bookmarked for a long time. One could go to Blade Forums, and run a search on either nam...

Knife Center is an excellent vendor. They are fast and honest. Their site has more information than most, and their range of stock is probably second to none. Their prices are not the best in most instances. But, frequently they're real close to the lower prices going out there. You won't go wrong s...

Hi mischa -- welcome to the forum. You indicated that you're new to Spyderco, but left room for yourself to own other knives. I think that is potentially a significant factor in whether you need to buy a drone or not. The knives for which there are training models are all used/carried frequently in ...

Until I learned that each Spyderco has a special purpose for which it was designed, I thought they were just odd-ly shaped, and wouldn't buy one. But, when I realized they were good knives, and that each had a particular purpose/reason for existence, I bought those that fitted my immediate needs. I ...

Dav -- mostly, it is a matter of taste whether to have PE, 50/50, or fully serrated. I was amused once at an informal poll on Blade Forums once, when the same discussion occurred. Virtually everyone, of a long list, who responded came down for PEs. A few for fully serrated. Don't recall anybody favo...

There is nothing wrong with asking a question that has been asked many times before. There is less wrong with using a software feature like "Search" and learning the answer yourself. Who knows, you might come across a thread or two that will have more information than you'll receive from a...

I just checked the REI web site. The only thing that came up on "REI Knife" was some plastic eating utensils. Did search for knives, got 152 hits, including saws and assorted other things. Didn't see any REI knife amongst the Spydercos. Maybe didn't look carefully enough. You've got me rea...

AET -- I agree that 1SKS is a good place to buy. But to ensure you are getting the best prices from them, give them the opportunity to meet the lowest regular price you can find. I found 2 good dealers selling the Merlin for $5.00 and $5.60 less than 1SKS' price. Another good vendor's price is $9.00...

Unless you do/need to do so much sharpening that it is really inconvenient for you to have to wait to go to your supplier's place, then I'd just maintain the status quo. You're continuing to be a good customer, and he's offering you a valuable perk. I'd keep using the perk, and smiling and bowing my...

For the same money, you could have bought 3 CRKT folders from SMKW on closeout. At least you would have had 3 decent knives, without helping the knock off jerks make more money, and encourage them to keep selling the illegal, dangerous, POS knives. Sorry, Vampeyrewolf, I just can't see doing anythin...
