Re: Toomzz' patina thread

For those doing the soaker patinas; are you taping off the pivot, lock bar face, and edge? Speaking of those area's. The novacan almost had no effect around the pivot of my k390 Police. It seemed like there is some ki d of coating applied. Anyone similar experiences? And no, no taping but I avoid t...

Cool, no worries that the vinegar overreacts on the 52100? I wouldn't dare using novacan on the 52100.
I cut and peeled a couple pears this morning and my urban camouflage came out nicely blue stained....

Re: Any update on the Police 4 K390?

 20 degrees inclusive? I realized mine wasn't that sharp out of the box either, so I followed Joris' example. I rigged it on my Wicked Edge last night and gave it a 38 degrees inclusive (sounds really dumb now.....) I like to keep my edge safe, but I understand I can already safely reduce it to...

I had a Bravo Bark River in 3V and personally I was not very fond of it. Tough but a PITA to sharpen. I prefer Cruwear in that perspective....

Re: CPM Cru-Wear Grey users, please stand up !

Me too Nemo, for me it started with the use of the Mule when it came out in 2010 (?). I used it a while in the kitchen but finally I sold it (which is ok). However I am glad we are given the opportunity to try it again in a serie of folders. Thanks for that Spyderco.... I own the Para3 in cruwear, n...

Re: Toomzz' patina thread

The coloring or blueing works out nice on cladsteels as well. Here two Stretches, in Superblue and Hap40. Check how the coresteel has darkened also on the back and in the hole of the blade. Maybe needless to say, but it is good too oil your non stainless blades regularly, especially when you force p...

Re: Going Clip Free

I understand all the preferences, though in 22 years of carrying I never had a clip snapped or broken. I have large hands and I need the clip for the grip to operate the hole with my thumb when opening. Recently I found out that I do not need it on flippers because my grip is different, so my Advoca...

Re: Toomzz' patina thread

Not every steel reacts the same forming Patina. Superblue reacts different than M4 for example. This is the 52100 blade of my PM2. It was dipped in my favorite local mustard (Doesburgsche ;) ) for 10 minutes together with the K390 Police. The Police was almost unaffected, the PM2 dramatically staine...

One step further; applying Novacan. Just rub a wet qtip over the steel and patina forms instantly. Lemons, mustards and other foods work fine but Novacan is most effective. To be continued.
