Hmmm... I guess I shouldn't be as paranoid about sending in my Calypso Jr. in to get a new needle tip resharpened on it. Especially now that I have an identical one to replace it while it's resharpened. The new one just needs a good oiling with something besides WD-40.

Looks like a cross between the Salsa and Progrip, with a Chinook-shaped handle. Any plans for scales or a nested compression lock?

As if G-10 wasn't expensive enough... G-10 handled knives easily add 50% to the price of a knife. But CF would look pretty good. What about a pricepoint model with FRN and a liner with the nested compression lock?

Well, this is up there in price, but nothing beats the WDP Angel Collector's Club. Each Angel paintball marker starts at a grand.

Civilian: Why is it shaped that way?

Took a look at a CF Civvie (They have em at Bestknives.com for $200, JIC anyone's looking for one), and I noticed that when the knife is closed, the part of the blade visible in the profile makes the blade look smaller, and the curveback of the reverse S toward the tip is not obvious. Is this decept...

The police model, for a knife its size, is very unassuming. It's a slim knife, and in SS with a plainedge blade, it can even be thought of as a gentleman's knife. So, it won't turn too many heads. However, it is a wolf in sheep's clothing, with a long, slim blade that is good for stabbing or slashin...

I sent an E-mail to their parent site, Sleggtools.com. They told me that, while the order did not change online, the salesperson did make the change, and the shipment on its way does have the correct knife. That eased my fears a little. Now I just have to wait to make sure the model is the right one...

Personally, I wouldn't care if they never sold another knife (it's going to take till the 18th for a knife to get down here to Texas from Vancouver BC). It's just that they sold ME a knife just before whatever happened to their site happened. I changed the order via E-mail since the original knife I...

As for the clip, the best thing would be some Loktite thread sealant, the kind that isn't permanent (I think it's blue). Just put a drop on the threads of the side where the threads aren't exposed when unscrewed, assemble the clip, and screw it down tight. If things are really bad, you may want a sm...

I use WD-40 simply because I have nothing else, but as soon as I get my paintball gear from home I'll give my knives some good TLC. If you're not working around food, any reasonably clear, viscous oil will work. Prevention of wear is the key, not necessarily freedom from all friction (oils do have f...

Cleaning out grit

What is y'all's favorite way to clean out the little grit particles that inevitably accumulate in the blade well of your knife. I took a look at Spyderco's suggestion for using a toothpick when I got my first knife... A toothpick. Funny. I've tried using paper towels, kleenex, and TP to wipe it out,...

Knifesite.com down?

I've recently been trying to get to knifesite.com, both the site itself and an e-mail address in that domain. Apparently they are either having major trouble, or they moved the contents to sleggtools.com, their parent domain. Anyone know what's going on? The Sleggtools site allows you to search for ...

The Impala looks like a larger Jester with a linerlock. Might be cool instead of the Pro-Grip or other similar blade styles.

The problem with a sheepfoot blade is that it is specifically designed not to stab. Stabbing cuts are the lethal ones; slashes are not as serious an injury unless you hit a major artery, and in many cases that's easy to do with a stab as well. Sure, they look much worse than stabs, but that's becaus...

Reduced variety of blade steels

It seems to me that with the upgrade of the Delica and Endura and the discontinuation of some of the older knives, the majority of Spyderco's current line are done in only a few steels. VG-10: High-polish, tough steel, holds an edge well, great for EDC indoor hard-use knives. CPM-440: Harder high-ca...

If you don't feel comfortable sharpening a knife, don't. Send it to Spyderco for sharpening. Practice on a smaller knife first. The sharpmaker is easy to use with some practice, but it's difficult to maintain a needle point. Why would you need to sharpen a Civvie? I can't think of any use that would...

I had an edge try to wiredge on me. My solution was to VERY CAREFULLY AND GENTLY run the edge at 90 degrees to a small radius corner of the fine grit stone. This will rip off the wire edge while (hopefully) not dulling the real edge too much. Then, I resharpened the edge, being careful to keep a pro...

I've never been unfortunate enough to come up against a non-knife authority figure. I may, though, as it gets warmer and my jacket no longer hides the clip(s). I've never opened or even drawn my knife in a threatening manner, which seems to be the only circumstance in which people around here are af...
