Have you tried sending any of your three defective knives to Spyderco? From what I learn here, they don't send out repair parts, but they do take good care of their customers, especially if product was defective. I'd give it a try.

Normally, I prefer grinding the spine to repair a tip because it preserves the factory edge shape. Sharpening the edge to fix the tip sweeps the edge up more than I like. That said, in this case, with only 1/32" gone on a coated blade, sharpening the edge to regain the tip seems wiser.

Silicon bronze would be my choice out of the yellow metals. Only as a bolster on larger knives, possibly as full scales on a gent's folder. Cuprous alloys are denser than stainless steel, so weight must be kept in mind.

I love the Delica. It was my first Spyderco folder, and I just ordered two of the new wharncliffe Delicas from KW. Though not a collector, I own several Delicas. They, along with my PM2, account for 80+% of my daily carry.

I tend to agree with Deacon on the kindergarten scissors tip of some of the straight spined models but that is easy enough to fix with a grinder. I always give just the tip a special attention session on the rod flats once the rest of the edge is where I want it. The key thing is not to let the point slide off the rod, and this is easier to prevent when focusing on just the tip.

The early rescue knives got the basics right from the start, IMO.

I'd say that if you have snapped your blade or chipped/rolled its apex, you have just defined the upper limit of your folder's "hard-use". So, if you're applying forces or touching surfaces that get you moving toward these catastrophes, you're definitely in "hard-use" territory ...
