It has been reprofiled and used on several camping trips. Good retention, and not a single chip despite some questionable use - wasn't me.

I just whiddled my first hair. It was with my cruwear pm2. Cruwear gets ridiculously sharp without much difficulty. I love sharpening it.

How exactly are you chipping them? If you're digging and hitting rocks just buy a decent garden trowel for that part.
